Voice of time: the National Centre RUSSIA congratulates everyone on Radio Day
Radio Day is celebrated in Russia on 7 May — a holiday for the people thanks to whom news, music and important words are heard in our homes every day. For the National Centre RUSSIA, this is not only an occasion to congratulate industry professionals, but also an opportunity to emphasise once again that media, especially radio, remain an important tool for education, upbringing and dialogue between generations.
The history of the holiday dates back to 1895, when Alexander Popov demonstrated the world’s first radio receiver at a meeting of the Russian Physical and Chemical Society in Saint Petersburg. Since then, radio has evolved from a scientific experiment into one of the key channels of communication, especially at turning points in history, including during the Great Patriotic War. Today, in the age of digital technology, radio is changing, but it has not lost its essence — a live voice addressed to a person.
At the National Centre RUSSIA, this connection between times and technologies is reflected in educational and media projects. One of the key areas is work with schoolchildren and students taking their first steps in journalism. The Young Journalists School holds lectures and practical classes dedicated to radio journalism. Participants learn about the broadcast format, practise working with text and voice, and examine how a programme, interview or news bulletin is structured. As part of the training, visits to radio stations are organised, including communication with industry professionals and participation in real broadcasts.
Another point of attraction for those interested in media is "Space of Opportunities", an educational and cultural venue opened in 2025 at the National Centre RUSSIA. It is a joint project of the National Centre RUSSIA, the Movement of the First, Rosmolodyozh, the "Russia — Land of Opportunity" platform and the Russian society Znanie. Here, the media environment becomes a tool for development — from digital culture and media literacy to creative self-expression and teamwork.
The structure of "Space of Opportunities" includes the Movement of the First television and radio complex, with a modern television and radio studio. In these studios, schoolchildren and students try themselves as hosts, reporters and editors, and learn to work on air and behind the scenes. Podcasts are recorded here, original programmes are created, diction and microphone training sessions are held, and topics important to the younger generation are discussed.
Nearby are an XR studio, a new media zone, a professional photo studio and a conference hall for meetings with experts and journalists. All of this forms a living ecosystem in which radio and other media appear not only as a finished product, but also as a field for experimentation and growth.
On Radio Day, the National Centre RUSSIA congratulates everyone connected with this sphere: radio journalists, engineers, hosts, sound directors, teachers and mentors who help young people take their first steps in the profession. And, of course, the young people who are already going on air today thanks to the projects of the National Centre RUSSIA and preparing to become the voice of their generation.
Cooperation between the National Centre RUSSIA and the Zaraysk Urban District will make it possible to present the city’s historical treasures to a broad international audience.
From maps and routes to recipes and products: the "Geography Lessons" exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA continued in the format of a gastronomic dialogue.
