Governor Alexei Besprozvannykh spoke to the National Centre RUSSIA about economic development and new regional infrastructure projects
As part of the thematic week held from 12 to 18 January, the Governor of the Kaliningrad Region, Alexei Besprozvannykh, spoke with the press office of the National Centre RUSSIA. In the interview, the head of the region discussed key aspects of socio-economic development, infrastructure projects, plans to mark the region’s 80th anniversary, its tourism potential, and a range of other issues.
Alexei Besprozvannykh placed particular emphasis on the development of the Kaliningrad region’s economy. According to him, taking into account the results achieved last year, the region has set itself the target of reaching a gross regional product of 1 trillion roubles in 2026.
The Governor also spoke about infrastructure projects that have been supported by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. First and foremost, he referred to the oncology centre, which is already in operation and is planned to be used, among other things, as a centre of scientific expertise. He also mentioned the opening of a new building of the World Ocean Museum titled "Planet Ocean", the opening of a branch of the State Tretyakov Gallery, and the construction of a branch of the Bolshoi Theatre, whose building is planned to be completed this year.
In 2026, the Kaliningrad region will mark the 80th anniversary of its establishment. The anniversary programme includes around 400 events. Alongside the celebratory activities, the region also plans to implement major infrastructure projects. These include the construction of the Belye Duny resort on the Baltic Sea coast. Various concepts for the construction of a branch of the National Centre RUSSIA in Kaliningrad are also under consideration, Alexei Besprozvannykh said.
