Ilya Averbukh: "There should be a feeling of absolute trust in a family"
Russian figure skater Ilya Averbukh met with participants of the All-Russian Family Forum Dear — Loved Ones held at the RUSSIA EXPO. The figure skater shared his parenting secrets and his understanding of family happiness with the guests.
Ilya said that he always tries to be sensitive to his own children and support them in all endeavors, and at the same time remain an authority for the child.
"My son's passion for virtual sports seemed insignificant to me, we fought over it. I demanded from him to turn off the console and do some useful things. And now it turned out that this is actually a sport. Now my son is studying at the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, and there is a whole virtual football team there, and he is its captain. He has special equipment; he is the pride of the university!" noted Averbukh.
As for the relationship between husband and wife, the figure skater believes that there must necessarily be trust and mutual respect between spouses.
"They often say that family is work, work on yourself. But I don't like the word "work" regarding the family. Family is not work, but a certain feeling. However, in a family there should be mutual respect, mutual balance, everyone should have their own personal space, there should be a sense of absolute trust," said Averbukh.
According to the skater, this is the kind of family where harmony can be achieved. He cited his own experience as an example. Once he trusted his mother Julia, who wanted him to do figure skating. And her active participation in her son's athletic career later made him a champion in the sport.
"High-performance sports can not be compared with an ordinary job, after which you come home to rest. Everything is subordinated to the regime. There are pluses to it. I became what I became thanks to my mom, her persistence, faith in me," said the guest of the forum.
At the end of the meeting Ilya Averbukh once again drew the attention of the audience to the fact that although parents, certainly, should be actively involved in the child's life, they should not put too much pressure on them. Because in this case, children will not only fail to realize themselves, but will also spoil the relationship with their mothers and fathers.
