"They cannot be blindly trusted": Vitaly Savelyev on working with artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence technologies greatly simplify work, yet they cannot be fully trusted. Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev spoke about his experience of using neural networks at the Znanie.Science educational marathon held at the National Centre RUSSIA.
"Do I use neural networks? Yes, I have for quite some time. I use GigaChat – a product developed by Sber. Also ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Perplexity. Of course, you should use them – they make many tasks easier. You get a general framework, and then you have to work things out yourself. It’s even more interesting than simply opening a browser. But in my opinion, there’s a problem: they cannot be completely trusted. If you transfer responsibility to them for the material they produce, serious mistakes may occur," said Vitaly Savelyev.
He recalled asking an AI system how many nuclear icebreakers were operating in Russia in 2025. The neural network replied six, although the correct answer was eight. After clarification, the system "thought" and agreed. Then he asked which high-speed motorway would be built first in Russia. The AI named the Moscow–Kazan route, but the correct answer was Moscow–Saint Petersburg.
"What do I use them for? I take information from them that prompts me to dig deeper into professional sources. So it’s not a final answer but a starting point," explained the Deputy Prime Minister.
The educational marathon Znanie.Science brings together more than 5,000 school students, university students and young scientists, winners of national academic contests from 80 Russian regions, as well as from Abkhazia. The marathon highlights the importance of science for all spheres of human activity – from industry to culture. Through discussions with lecturers, participants learn how science expands human capabilities and what prospects open up for young people in the scientific field. The event is held at the National Centre RUSSIA on 30–31 October 2025.
