Folk music in Russia has clearly become younger — and that cannot fail to inspire. Singer and performer of the hit "Matushka" Tatyana Kurtukova shared this view in an interview with the press service of the National Centre RUSSIA after performing at the gala concert "Contemporary Musical Map of Russia".

"Today, folk music has become rejuvenated, with many young performers offering creative interpretations of traditional songs. It’s wonderful to see children and young people getting involved through costumes, headwear, songs and dances, which makes folk music concerts popular again. Russian folk music is deeply heartfelt and multifaceted. Anyone who hears a Russian folk song — whether Russian or not — feels a sense of connection. At one time, folk songs became less visible as other musical genres came to the forefront. But truth and sincerity always find their way through, and now this music is once again gaining momentum. It is very important that society and the media continue to support it," said Tatyana Kurtukova.

Speaking about the importance of the festival for promoting the cultural code, the singer noted that the long-standing musical tradition is reflected not only through folk music but also through the works of contemporary composers.

"The project 'Contemporary Musical Map of Russia' opens the way for young talented authors, composers and performers, and I truly hope we will see many new, high-quality hits. I believe this is something we need now more than ever. The Russian cultural code manifests itself not only through folk music but also through modern compositions. Every performance and every piece in this concert was imbued with Russian culture — rich, diverse and multifaceted. I heard folk motifs from different regions and saw people in national costumes that looked truly authentic. It’s impossible not to feel joy seeing that," added Tatyana Kurtukova.

The project "Contemporary Musical Map of Russia" aims to preserve and develop national academic art and folk creativity, support contemporary composers, and strengthen cultural ties between regions. As part of the project, a nationwide festival was held featuring and recording works that reflect the distinct identity of every region of the Russian Federation.
