The history of the sharkunok: unique item at "The Birth of Scale" exposition
The
National Centre RUSSIA showcases a traditional national toy — the sharkunok.
This unique item is featured at the architectural exposition "The Birth of
Scale."
This wooden
toy was commonly used by the inhabitants of the northern regions. Its design is
collapsible: wooden plates are connected in a special way.
"Peas
or small stones were placed inside, turning the sharkunok into a rattle.
Similar techniques were used to create musical instruments for adults, and
sharkunoks were also used to ward off evil spirits," noted Lyudmila
Zheludova, a guide at the National Centre RUSSIA.
Visitors
can explore this and other exhibits from Tuesday to Sunday. Prior registration
on the website is required for free guided tours.
"The
Birth of Scale" exposition has been open at the National Centre RUSSIA
since March 1. The exposition reveals the grandeur of Russia through its
architectural legacy, tracing the evolution of domestic architecture from
unique ancient structures to large-scale modern projects.
The history of Russian architecture, bold concepts, and Soviet urban planning projects realised across the globe were presented to delegations of the exposition on May 31.
These mills were technological structures, each one a complex mechanism despite its apparent simplicity.
The lecture "Russian Architecture in the Global Context" took place at the National Centre RUSSIA on May 30.
