Yury Trutnev held the tenth meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation at the RUSSIA EXPO
The RUSSIA EXPO hosted the 10th anniversary meeting of the
Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission on Trade and Economic
Cooperation. On the Russian side, the Commission is headed by Yury Trutnev,
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential
Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District. The Namibian side of
the Commission is chaired by Minister of International Relations and
Cooperation of the Republic of Namibia Peya Mushelenga.
"Our countries have long maintained friendly relations.
Russia was on the side of the Namibian people during their heroic struggle for
freedom and the establishment of Namibia as a sovereign state. We appreciate
that our Namibian friends consistently pursue a genuine independent course of
international relations, in many respects they are our like-minded friends. We
maintain a spirit of solidarity and mutual support, continue our trustful
political dialog and develop our contacts. We have close views on how the
modern world should develop without dictatorship and imposition of foreign
models of society and state structure. I am confident that we will continue to
strengthen cooperation and friendly relations between our countries," Yury
Trutnev opened the meeting.
"Namibia considers bilateral relations and cooperation
between Namibia and the Russian Federation important. We are proud of the good
diplomatic relations with your country. You are a valuable partner for our
country. The Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission on Trade and Economic
Cooperation is one of the main platforms to coordinate our bilateral
ties," Peya Mushelenga said.
The parties discussed strengthening cooperation in
agriculture, space industry, fisheries, mining, energy sector, tourism,
education, healthcare, trade and economic relations and investment attraction.
"Namibia's business community is interested in
developing mutually beneficial relations with Russian business," Peya
Mushelenga specified.
Yury Trutnev noted that a number of Russian companies are
interested in participating in the geological study of Namibia's subsoil.
"The companies are ready not only to explore deposits
for Namibia, put them into operation, but also to train Namibian students in
relevant mining specialties," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Following the results of the discussion, the co-chairmen of
the Commission Yury Trutnev and Peya Mushelenga signed the minutes of the 10th
meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission on Trade and
Economic Cooperation. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the
Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Health and
Social Services of the Republic of Namibia. The document was signed by Minister
of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko and Minister of Health and
Social Services of the Republic of Namibia Kalumbi Shangula.
"We have agreed with Mr. Co-Chairman that following the
results of the commission meeting we will give instructions to prepare
cooperation plans in all directions in order to develop our trade and economic
relations. Russia and Namibia have long-standing friendly ties. Namibia
supports Russia's position in a number of areas. Our friendship is another
island of stability, which allows us to maintain normal international relations
and normal development in the world," summarized the results of the
meeting Yury Trutnev.
On the same day at the RUSSIA EXPO, the Namibian delegation
visited the Pavilion of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and
Mass Media of the Russian Federation and got acquainted with the expositions of
the Far Eastern regions.
"The RUSSIA EXPO made a deep impression. In fact, it
opened our eyes to the level of development of Russia in a number of
industries. For me, it was particularly interesting to pay attention to the
information and communication technology development field. In the past, I was
the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies in Namibia. I will
definitely pass on my impressions to my successor so that he can come and see
everything with his own eyes and identify opportunities where we could
cooperate. The pavilions dedicated to the Far East made a great impression. I
would especially like to mention the exposition of Kamchatka, showing a
volcanic eruption. This is something I have heard about but never seen in
person. It is quite impressive," Peya Mushelenga said.
"We could not show the distinguished Mr. Mushelenga the
entire RUSSIA EXPO today. It would have taken much more time than we had at our
disposal. Since the co-chair was heading the Ministry of Information and
Communication Technologies, we introduced him to the exposition in this
industry. And I could not help but show him the exposition of the regions of
the Far East. Because this is my job, I am responsible for the development of
the Far Eastern macro-region. In the Far East, we can cooperate in many
areas," summarized Yury Trutnev.
