"How Old Kytna Brought Her Daughter Home": new episode of "The Faraway Kingdom" is about love stronger than distance

Sometimes the path to a loved one lies across endless tundra, snow and long years of waiting. This is the theme of the new episode of the National Centre RUSSIA's original project, the animated series "The Book of Russian Fairy Tales: The Faraway Kingdom" ("The Thrice-Ninth Tsardom"), based on folk tales. The animated short "How Old Kytna Brought Her Daughter Home" is based on a Koryak fairy tale from the Kamchatka Territory.

The main character, old Kytna, must set out on a journey that only someone whose heart knows neither fear nor doubt can complete. It is a story about a mother's love capable of overcoming cold, distance and time, about devotion to a loved one and the power of memory that helps preserve hope. Even in the harsh tundra, where the wind covers all tracks, the voice of a loved one can show the way home.

The visual style of the new episode is inspired by the distinctive graphic art of the peoples of the Far North. Restrained lines, the cool palette of the tundra and rhythmic patterns reminiscent of rock drawings and bone carving create the atmosphere of an ancient legend. Endless snowy expanses, silhouettes of wolves and the warm glow of a yaranga fire become an important part of this story about hope and returning home.

"The Book of Russian Fairy Tales: The Faraway Kingdom" is an original project of the National Centre RUSSIA, a series of short episodes, each bringing to life a fairy tale from one of the peoples of our country and accessible to viewers of all ages.
