"The lion as a symbol of strength and continuity": Zakhar Prilepin on the National Centre RUSSIA
Writer and public figure Zakhar Prilepin visited the National Centre RUSSIA and the "Journey Across Russia" exposition. He shared his impressions with the press office of the National Centre RUSSIA.
"I’ve been to many regions of Russia, including Vladivostok — more than once — and have driven across the magnificent Russky Bridge. A few days ago, I returned from Kaliningrad, and before that, my friends and I travelled across the Crimean Bridge. Despite all these journeys, I saw places here I had never been to before and realised that there are still so many corners of Russia worth visiting. Walking through the entire exposition — living through the country in just a few hours — gives you a sense of its vastness," said Zakhar Prilepin.
Apart from the exposition itself, Zakhar Prilepin noted that he particularly liked the symbol of the National Centre RUSSIA — the lion. According to him, this image serves as a unifying metaphor for the entire exposition space, reflecting the country’s richness and uniqueness. The lion, as a symbol of strength, power, and historical continuity, helps restore Russia’s lost meanings, territories, and achievements, while also reminding visitors of the deep connection between the people and their own history and culture.
"If you read the Old Rus’ chronicles, look at ancient coins or the paintings in our churches, you can find the most unexpected creatures — including lions. Many of them later migrated elsewhere, but nevertheless they are more closely connected to us than to many European countries," he explained.
The "Journey Across Russia" exposition brings together the history, traditions, and contemporary achievements of all of Russia’s federal districts. Unique exhibits and multimedia installations reveal the country’s natural, cultural, and historical diversity, showcasing its major achievements in science and technology. Guided tours of the exposition are free with prior registration. More details are available on the National Centre RUSSIA website in the "Events" section.
