A literary and musical evening in memory of Vladimir Vysotsky to take place at the National Centre RUSSIA
On July 23,
the National Centre RUSSIA will host a special edition of the literary club
"What to Read?!" dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the death of
Vladimir Vysotsky. The evening will offer a lively and thoughtful conversation
about the multifaceted work of the poet and actor, whose legacy continues to
resonate with new generations.
The event
will be moderated by Alexei Chesnakov, Head of the Scientific Council at the
Centre for Political Conjuncture and Professor at the National Research
University Higher School of Economics.
In the
intimate atmosphere of the venue, the political scientist will guide the
audience through the main milestones of the bard’s life – from his early poetic
experiments and theatre work to his iconic roles in "The Meeting Place
Cannot Be Changed" and "Hamlet," from the early courtyard
ballads to the deep philosophical lyrics of his later years.
Special
attention during the evening will be paid to the literary preferences of
Vladimir Vysotsky himself – the authors who inspired him, the books he took
with him on tour, and the influence literature had on the development of his
unique creative approach.
The evening
will offer an immersion into a cultural era through the lens of literature, a
heartfelt dialogue on the timeless themes in Vysotsky’s work. Attendees will
have a unique opportunity to listen to rare archival recordings and become part
of a warm gathering of like-minded people.
The event
starts at 18:00. It will be of interest to anyone who values Russian culture of
the second half of the 20th century, seeks a deeper understanding of the
Vysotsky phenomenon, and is looking for intellectual engagement with a soulful
atmosphere.
The
literary club "What to Read?!", led by Alexei Chesnakov, is a
flagship intellectual project of the National Centre RUSSIA. The meetings
create a unique space for meaningful literary dialogue, combining academic
depth with an engaging delivery. Each session becomes an exploration – whether
it is a study of a specific author, an analysis of a literary movement, or a
reflection on the role of books in the modern cultural context.
The project
is designed as a platform for cultivating the culture of thoughtful reading and
reflective writing, where contemporary issues are explored through the prism of
literature.
Detailed
