The literary club "Paradoxes of the Fantastic and the Real" will take place at the National Centre RUSSIA on February 20 at 18:00 as part of the large-scale program of the International Symposium "Inventing the Future," which will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA in October. Participants will discuss the influence of science fiction on real life, as well as the most interesting predictions made by science fiction writers. The event will be hosted by Yevgeny Kharitonov, writer and chairman of the Council for Science Fiction and Adventure Literature of the Union of Writers of Russia.

The meeting will be divided into several sections. The first part will focus on the predictions of science fiction writers, the second — on inventions first described in science fiction literature that we use today. The third section will explore fantastic coincidences and curiosities. During the club meeting, experts will touch upon the interaction between science fiction and politics and present striking examples of the genre in the film industry. Guests of the event will learn how film storyteller Alexander Rou surpassed the famous Hollywood special effects director Ray Harryhausen and how Elon Musk drew inspiration from Soviet science fiction films.

The literary club "Paradoxes of the Fantastic and the Real" will help find answers to questions such as: Are science fiction writers visionaries or simply well-read individuals? Why does real life influence science fiction and vice versa? Why has science fiction literature become closely tied to the modern political landscape, and why does China provide state support for the publication of science fiction?

Speaker: Yevgeny Kharitonov, science fiction expert, writer, head of the Centre for Humanitarian Projects and Research at the Russian State Library for Young Adults, and chairman of the Council for Science Fiction and Adventure Literature of the Union of Writers of Russia.

Science fiction enthusiasts are invited to attend at the following address: Moscow, 14 Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, Pavilion No. 7, 2nd floor, Conference Hall No. 3.
