The National Centre RUSSIA continues its series of workshops as part of the All-Russian video essay contest "Dreams of the Future." A new practical session titled "No Camera Needed: Quick Dive into Creating Mobile Content" is now available on the official website dream.russia.ru in the personal accounts of registered participating teams.

The workshop was conducted by blogger, correspondent, and "Insight People" resident Roman Varakin. He spoke about the process of filming and editing on a smartphone.

"Not everyone can afford to buy an expensive professional camera — most people shoot with a regular mobile phone. You can create both vertical and horizontal content using anything, whether it's an iOS or Android platform. What matters is the lighting, the angle, and how it’s edited to make the video interesting and high-quality. I shared secrets on how to shoot so that the video is dynamic, visually appealing, and pleasant to watch. We explored one of the most popular editing apps. Many of them are built on the same basic principles. Contest participants learned about different types of shots and angles, how to frame, add sound, and apply effects," explained Roman Varakin.

The blogger also spoke about additional equipment needed for quality footage: a tripod, an extra light source, and a microphone.

Participants of the workshops will go through the entire process of creating a video. Experts will share proven techniques and life hacks on screenwriting and filming, and will highlight the importance of video storytelling as a powerful tool of influence.

Four more sessions are also available on the following topics:

— "In the Coordinates of Science Fiction: Why Are Sci-Fi Writers Able to Glimpse the Future? An Analysis of Contemporary Trends and Their Impact on Society";

— "Secrets of Screenwriting: From Concept to Filming";

— "What to Film About? How to Find a Relevant Topic and Turn It into an Engaging Plot";

— "Screenwriting Creativity: Tell Your Story!"

The first session was dedicated to the role of science fiction in the modern world; the second focused on screenplay structure, creating a protagonist and an antagonist, and key turning points in the plot. During the third session, participants discussed how to properly select the author of a literary work for a future story and determine the genre that best reveals the chosen literature. The fourth workshop covered screenwriting creativity — where to find ideas for scripts and how to properly structure them to engage the audience.

The "Dreams of the Future" contest continues to revive society's interest in future planning — a mission that began at the International Symposium "Inventing the Future." The project aims to inspire young people to reflect on what lies ahead and to introduce them to the works of science fiction writers. Participants are required to create a video essay starting with the words: "We want to create a future where..." and must reference a science fiction work from the recommended list. Submissions can be uploaded to the website dream.russia.ru until 30 April.

The contest is held within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Movement of the First, the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education under the Presidential Council for Science and Education, the Russian State Library for Young Adults, the Council for Science Fiction and Adventure Literature of the Union of Writers of Russia, the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh), the ANO "ArtMasters," the ANO "Russia – Land of Opportunity," the All-Russian Festival "NAUKA 0+", the ANO "Innovative Centre for the Development and Upbringing of Children and Youth," and the Startup Village conference.

The literary partner of the contest is the Eksmo-AST publishing group, the official book network is Chitai-Gorod, the social content partner is "YOUF – Your Media About Reading," and the analytical partner is VCIOM.
