Young participants of the workshop "Graphic Urban Fantasies" had the opportunity to become creators of their own urban universes. The event took place at the National Centre RUSSIA on 19 April as part of the educational programme of the exposition "The Birth of Scale." The class was led by Oksana Denisova, a teacher at the School of Architectural Development (SHAR) and a member of the International Union of Pedagogue-Artists. The works of the outstanding architect and artist Yakov Chernikhov, presented at the exposition, served as a source of inspiration for the children.

"Today we worked with analogues of Yakov Chernikhov's 'Architectural Fantasies.' I showed the children some of his sketches, from which they selected a few. Based on them, the participants tried to create their own architectural designs of the future in a two-dimensional format, moving from simple to complex — from vertical and horizontal lines of varying lengths to conscious architectural forms of a modern city. Chernikhov remains relevant today, as his work continues to inspire contemporary generations of architects — and this, essentially, is how the future is being built," said Oksana Denisova.

A3 sheets gradually filled with urban silhouettes and then entire virtual spaces, reflecting the individual creative potential of each child. The participants of the workshop learned not only to draw but also to see the city in a new light, to find inspiration in architecture, and to turn it into art.

"I came up with and drew a building with a viewing platform, a bridge, and a power station. I really liked this workshop and will tell my friends about it," shared 8-year-old Bogdan Karagodin.

The architectural exposition "The Birth of Scale" at the National Centre RUSSIA reveals the grandeur of Russia through its architectural legacy. The exposition features both original exhibits from the National Centre RUSSIA and items provided by museums and private collectors from across the country. These include architects’ tools from different eras, drawings and models of buildings — both successfully constructed and left as innovative concepts. A special section is dedicated to the future of Russian architecture, showcasing children’s creative studios, student workshops, and the works of young architects.
