Head of the Ministry of Health of Russia Mikhail Murashko held an extended meeting of the board of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on the results of work in 2023 and tasks for 2024. The event was held at the RUSSIA EXPO during the thematic National Priorities Day dedicated to the contribution of healthcare to a long and active life.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a written greeting to the participants of the board. Mikhail Mishustin, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, addressed the colleagues with a video greeting. Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection Badma Bashankaev, representative of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Elena Perminova and other representatives of federal agencies and healthcare organizations spoke at the event in person.

During the event, Tatyana Golikova and Mikhail Murashko solemnly presented state and departmental awards to medical workers, noting their personal contribution to saving lives and developing the healthcare system.

During the meeting it was emphasized that today the maximum level of life expectancy and the lowest level of general and infant mortality in history have been achieved. Life expectancy in 2023 is 73.4 years, and the minimum infant mortality rate is 4.2 ppm. The lowest total mortality rate in the history of the country was recorded. More than 300 regional vascular centers and primary vascular departments were equipped and re-equipped. In 2023, work was continued to prevent the development of cardiovascular diseases and cardiovascular complications in high-risk patients under dispensary monitoring. All these measures have made it possible to achieve significant results and improve the health of Russians, reduce the burden of disease from cardiovascular pathologies.

Unprecedented measures are being taken to help people with cancer: the oncological care service is being rebuilt and re-equipped, new methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer are being introduced. In 2023, 4 oncologic healthcare facilities were commissioned, and 11 new oncologic dispensaries have been created over the last 5 years. To increase the level of early detection of oncological diseases and the availability of medical care in the field of oncology in the regions, a huge amount of work has been done to organize centers for outpatient oncological care: over 530 of them have been created over 5 years. Today there are 18 modern reference centers for immunohistochemical, pathomorphological and radiation methods of research designed to raise the diagnostics of oncological diseases to a new level.

Due to all the measures over 5 years, it was possible to achieve a decrease in mortality from neoplasms, five-year survival rate and quality of life of patients increased. In 2023, 87.8 million people underwent preventive examinations and medical check-ups. In addition, starting from 2023, it is now possible to undergo a medical examination at the place of work or study.
