World Tree as a symbol of the universe — Ingush mythology at VDNH
Ingush ornamental art is rich in symbols. Ornaments in the shape of stylized garlands became the basis for the decoration of the region’s New Year tree.
Each ornament has its own meaning. For example, in the central part of the fir tree there is an ornament "World Tree", which symbolizes three dimensions in three projections.
The core of the universe was thought to be a giant tree, with roots going to the lower world and branches reaching to the upper, heavenly world. The sacred tree is a widespread symbol among many peoples of the world. It reflects the pagan beliefs of Ingush and Chechens before Islam.
The New Year decoration is complemented by traditional crafts: dolls in national costumes, red amulets, animal figurines and a stringed bowed instrument, the Khisyn faendyr.
On the Main Alley of VDNH visitors are greeted by 89 fir trees, each of which represents a region of the country with its folk arts and crafts and traditions. And the 90th blue spruce represents the RUSSIA EXPO itself. The trees came from the Moscow region, where they have been carefully cultivated for many years. After the exposition, the spruces will be planted near VDNH.
