"Morozko" is a journey not only through a fairytale, but through art forms — Alexander Maksov
The new performance "Morozko", whose showings began at the National Centre RUSSIA on 27 December, is a vivid example of the symbiosis of modern technology and the 'live' play of the artists. This opinion was expressed by ballet and theatre critic, art historian Alexander Maksov, who shared his impression of viewing the new production.
The ballet and theatre critic thanked the performance's creative team and the leadership of the National Centre RUSSIA for a successfully accomplished task. In Alexander Maksov's opinion, gathering a large number of multi-genre ensembles on one stage, rehearsing, and presenting everything so impeccably, vividly, and effectively, is incredibly difficult work.
"I very much liked that the performance is based on the wonderful Russian fairytale, which was adapted to modern realities. Here, Russian folklore, the Russian theme, the images of Morozko, Moroz-Voyevoda (Frost-Commander), and Red-Nosed Frost — themes that appear both in Nekrasov's work and in folk tales — were combined. It is clear that the title itself attracts attention no less than 'The Nutcracker' once did, which conquered practically all theatrical stages. It is very pleasing that a new theme and form, a new fairytale, were found, and such a performance was created with regard to a winter topic. This was extremely difficult and exceedingly interesting, to watch the combination of vocals, dramatic acting, and choreography. It is a kaleidoscopic show, but it allowed the audience to take a journey not only through a fairytale but also through art forms and genres. And if such a goal was set, it was undoubtedly achieved," noted Alexander Maksov.
The theatre critic also underscored the use of multimedia technologies. In his opinion, the huge screens with bright and dynamic visual content perfectly complemented the artists' play, immersing both young and adult audiences in a fairytale world.
"I congratulate everyone who was involved in the creation and organisation of this performance. Taking the opportunity, I want to say: this journey into a fairytale happens on the eve of the New Year, and at this time we always make wishes, we have expectations and hopes. I would like to wish that they all come true for everyone, that the fairytale becomes reality," said Alexander Maksov.
