"We remain together, whatever happens": Dmitry Zhuravlev on unity of the peoples of Russia
In the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, declared by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the National Centre RUSSIA continues to gather views on what unity means to the country's people. Dmitry Zhuravlev, Candidate of Political Sciences, Academic Director of the Institute of Regional Problems and Associate Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, shared his perspective. According to him, unity is, above all, the ability to achieve goals together.
"Unity is the ability to achieve a result together. It is unity of purpose, when you do not need to answer a question why you are doing something. It is when we do something better without thinking about the cost, and not in order to make money, but so that people can live better. And it is when we do something not so much in economic terms as in terms of confidence in the future. For the younger generation, the most important question today is what lies ahead and how much that "tomorrow" depends on us. We can find that very tomorrow only together. It is a collective effort," Dmitry Zhuravlev said.
He added that, alongside a shared history, the unity of the peoples of Russia is based on a shared worldview and a sense of belonging to our common present and future.
"They tried to convince us that we were not together — it was a very effective propaganda campaign. But in reality, we are united. In Kherson, in Zaporozhye, in Donbas — how can you tell apart those who live here from those who came here? We are united not because we were brought together, but because we think alike and feel alike. And we will remain united, whatever happens," Dmitry Zhuravlev concluded.

one of the experts at the "Time of Unity" educational forum, held at
the National Centre RUSSIA on 29 September. Organised by the Russian society
Znanie, the event brought together around 300 participants, including students
from Moscow universities and colleges, working young people and civil servants.
The forum was held ahead of the Day of Reunification of the Donetsk People's
Republic, the Lugansk People's Republic, the Zaporozhye Region and the Kherson
Region with the Russian Federation, observed on 30 September.
