03.11.2024

A round table titled "Science Fiction as a Driver of Development. Creating New Fantastic Worlds and Frameworks" will take place during the International Symposium "Inventing the Future." Representatives of government, the scientific community, and creative industries will discuss the experience of Soviet science fiction and its modern perspectives in terms of designing the future.

The main distinction of Soviet science fiction is that it demonstrates a belief in the future and the limitless potential of a human being in shaping that future. In this genre, good always triumphs over evil, and technology evolves in harmonious synergy with moral ideals and social justice.

The task of contemporary science fiction is to start designing a constructive image of civilization again and to foster a positive perception of the future. History has shown that science fiction often becomes reality, and the more creative the ideas of science fiction writers worldwide are, the more successful global science fiction projects will come to life, making future generations happier.

The design of the future through science fiction will be discussed by Albert Efimov, Vice President and Director of Research and Innovation Department at Sberbank; science fiction writer and leading Russian forecasting specialist, project supervisor of Sociosoft, forecaster Sergei Pereslegin; orientalist and Doctor of Historical Sciences Alexei Maslov; science fiction writer Vadim Panov; and others.

Foreign speakers will also participate in the discussion – they include Yao Xue, a representative of the science fiction association in Chengdu (China); James Law, an architect and developer of cyber homes in India and China (Hong Kong); and Roberto Quaglia, a science fiction writer (Italy). They will share the experiences of their countries in developing strategies for content creation that shape a vision of the future based on traditional values and respect.

The round table will be moderated by Acting Director of the Communications Department of the Rosatom State Corporation Andrei Timonov.

On July 1, 2024, President Vladimir Putin signed an order to establish the National Centre RUSSIA to preserve the legacy of the RUSSIA EXPO and showcase the country's achievements on a permanent basis.

From November 4 to 6, the National Centre RUSSIA will host the International Symposium "Inventing the Future." The participants will include scientists and researchers, futurologists and forecasters, science fiction writers, and representatives of the authorities.

The Symposium will become a unique international platform for open dialog, where the scenarios of human development and global challenges of our time will be discussed. The program includes more than 60 events in four areas: the future of human, the future of technology, the future of the multipolar world, and the future of civilization.

The event will be attended by scientists, futurists, government and business representatives from 100 countries, including Austria, Argentina, India, China, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and others.

The Symposium program is published on the website future.russia.ru. Broadcasts of the events will also be available there during the days of the Symposium.

As part of the opening of the Symposium, an exposition will be launched that will support the idea of a human-centric dialogue about the future of the world. The exposition will allow each visitor to realize the importance of personal contribution to the future.
