Pomorye stand at the RUSSIA EXPO presents a model of the world's largest submarine

At the Pomorye stand at the RUSSIA EXPO, visitors can get acquainted with a model of the world's largest submarine, the Akula (meaning Shark), and trace the evolution of the national fleet.

This Project 941 heavy strategic missile cruiser was built at Sevmash. Its miniature copy in section gives a full idea of the submarine's internal structure: the model clearly demonstrates that there is a sauna, a swimming pool and a gym for the crew on board the nuclear submarine.

As the Minister of Economic Development, Industry and Science of the Arkhangelsk region Evgenia Shelyuk reminded, in the 1980s, six units of such submarines were produced. The submarine could carry a payload of 20 intercontinental solid-fueled missiles - this is the reason for its size.

"Akula is not only the largest, but also the most comfortable submarine: each crew member had the opportunity to have a full rest between watches during the months-long voyage. The exhibit presented at the exposition demonstrates the capabilities of domestic nuclear shipbuilding, which is the pride of Russia and our region in particular," noted Eugenia Shelyuk.

The youngest guests of the exposition are invited to show their skills and wit by assembling a wooden puzzle in the form of the Akula nuclear submarine. The puzzle game is not only fascinating, but also educational: it allows children to learn more about the construction of the submarine.

In addition, the exposition features a composition showing the evolution of the Russian Navy: from wooden ships to powerful submarine cruisers. Thanks to it, Moscow residents and residents of other regions can get detailed information about the shipbuilding industry of the Pomorye region, about the development of the Northern Sea Route and about Arkhangelsk itself - the first seaport of the country.
