The National Centre RUSSIA announced the start of registration for the "Dreams of the Future" video essay contest
03.10.2025

On March 10, the National Centre RUSSIA announces the start of team registration for the "Dreams of the Future" video essay contest. The project's goal is to spark the younger generation's interest in the works of science fiction writers. This competition continues the effort to revive society's engagement in envisioning the future, a movement initiated at the International Symposium "Inventing the Future." The contest is held as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.

Teams of five participants aged 14 to 18 are invited to take part. The contest task is to record a video essay about the future the authors wish to create. The video must begin with the phrase: "We want to create a future where..." A key requirement is that the submission must reference works of science fiction. To support participants, the Russian State Library for Young Adults and the Council for Science Fiction and Adventure Literature of the Union of Writers of Russia, with the involvement of the Eksmo-AST publishing group, have compiled a list of recommended books that can serve as inspiration. The list is available on the competition's website: dream.russia.ru. Video essays can be uploaded to the website from March 24 to April 24.

From April 25 to May 19, an expert jury will evaluate the submitted works based on five criteria: relevance to the contest theme, technical execution quality, originality, artistic presentation, and use of scientific facts. The 20 best teams will advance to the finals, with six of them becoming winners and prize recipients.

On June 1, International Children's Day, the National Centre RUSSIA will host a grand award ceremony, where the winners will receive valuable prizes.

The project is supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Movement of the First national youth movement, the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education under the Presidential Council for Science and Education, the Russian State Library for Young Adults, and the Council for Science Fiction and Adventure Literature of the Union of Writers of Russia.

The contest's literary partner is the Eksmo-AST publishing group, with Chitai-Gorod as the official bookstore network. The social content partner is YOUF — Your Media About Reading, and the analytical partner is VCIOM.
