On May 30, the Republic of Buryatia celebrates 102 years since its founding. On this day in 1923, the Buryat-Mongol ASSR was established by a resolution of the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee.

Over the years, Buryatia has transformed from an agricultural republic into a major industrial region of Russia. The Republic of Buryatia’s official holiday was established on May 30, 2017 by the Head of Buryatia, Alexei Tsydenov.

The region is part of the Far Eastern Federal District, which is represented at the "Journey Across Russia" exposition by the National Centre RUSSIA. Visitors can learn about the natural treasures and advanced economic achievements of the Far Eastern District and other regions.

"President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin believes that the nature of Lake Baikal is among the most beautiful in the world. It reflects the entirety of our Russia — with its diversity of cultures, religions, languages and the friendship of peoples. Buryatia is also one of the tourism hubs of the Far Eastern Federal District. Within a single region, one can see all the landscapes of Eurasia: mountains, taiga, steppes, tundra, desert, and plains. Buryatia is home to the centre of Russian Buddhism and the cultural centre of the Old Believers of Transbaikalia. Our republic has always been known for its hospitality and warmth. Representatives of 121 nationalities live here. We are actively developing tourist infrastructure and creating new points of attraction. In 2024, the tourist flow amounted to 689.3 thousand people, with a growth of 22.3 per cent. By the end of 2025, we expect no fewer than 700 thousand," said Alexei Tsydenov, Head of the Republic of Buryatia.

At the National Centre RUSSIA, visitors can see Buddhist prayer wheels, known as khurde, at the "Journey Across Russia" exposition. These are filled with sacred mantras, numbering in the hundreds of thousands. Turning a khurde clockwise is considered equal to reading all the prayers inside. It is believed that, in this moment, a protective energy field forms around the person. The wheels are presented by the Ivolginsky Datsan — one of Russia’s most important spiritual centres.

Guided tours of the "Journey Across Russia" exposition are free to attend with prior registration. Full details are available on the National Centre RUSSIA website in the "Events" section.
