The National Centre RUSSIA congratulates residents of the Amur region on Region Day!
Region Day
of the Amur region is celebrated annually on 20 December. On this day in 1858,
Alexander II signed a decree establishing the Amur region with its
administrative centre in the city of Blagoveshchensk as part of the East
Siberian Governor-Generalship. The National Centre RUSSIA congratulates
residents of the Amur region on Region Day.
Today, the
region is one of the most successful and dynamically developing territories of
the Far East, possessing significant scientific, economic, cultural, and natural
potential.
The Amur
region is located in the south-east of Russia, forms part of the Far Eastern
Federal District, and has an extensive border with China stretching for around
1,250 kilometres. It is a large region rich in natural resources, including
mineral deposits, forests, fertile land, hunting grounds, and full-flowing
rivers.
The Amur
and the Zeya rivers flow through the region, where the Zeya Hydroelectric Power
Station has been built, as well as the Bureya River, home to one of the most
powerful hydroelectric power stations in the Far East. The Amur region is
regarded as an agricultural centre of the macroregion and is particularly well
known for soybean cultivation. The region’s natural landscape is marked by
striking contrasts: from harsh taiga and mountains in the north to plains, a
milder climate, and chernozem soils in the south, as well as a unique
combination of northern and southern plant and animal species.
From 22 to
28 September 2025, the National Centre RUSSIA hosted a thematic week of the
Amur region as part of the exposition "Region-2030. Platform of the
Future". The programme of events focused on the diversity of the region.
Guests were able to explore its cultural traditions, historical legacy, and
promising developments. The programme included demonstrations of traditional
crafts, tastings of regional gastronomic specialities, and presentations of the
region’s scientific, industrial, and educational potential.
Everyone
interested in the history, culture, and natural heritage of the Amur region is
invited by the National Centre RUSSIA to visit the exposition "Journey Across Russia". Visitors will not only be able to learn more about the
life and achievements of the region, but also discover other federal districts
of the Russian Federation.
