Rosatom and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation summarised the results of the "University Programme"
The results of the "University Programme", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry, were announced by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation together with the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom. The programme brought together 109 universities from across the country and 215,000 in-person participants. In total, more than 2,060 events were held, ranging from career meetings and scientific conferences to sports celebrations and technical tours of nuclear facilities. The results were summed up at the National Centre RUSSIA.
"The 80th anniversary of the nuclear industry is a major national celebration. We held a wide range of events, with a particular focus on young people, as they will be the ones to develop the projects we are launching today and to create new ones. Together with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, we organised a large-scale university programme. Its goal was to engage students, share with them a sense of pride in the achievements of science and technology, and jointly reflect on the path taken by the nuclear industry. Among the most popular formats were technical tours of enterprises — around 700 such tours were held," said the Director General of the Rosatom Corporate Academy, Yulia Uzhakina.
Among the key joint initiatives of Rosatom and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation was the scientific and technological marathon "Atom Week", which brought together more than 15,000 senior-year students. First- and second-year students took part in the career festival marathon "Atomfest". As part of this initiative, in-person programmes were held at nine core universities of the State Corporation: students met industry leaders, took part in themed quizzes, and watched films about Rosatom’s unique projects. Overall, "Atomfest" events engaged around 9,000 students.
"During the year marking the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry, we were able to deepen cooperation between the sector and universities, renew the talent pool, and foster a sense of pride in the country among everyone who gained new knowledge about breakthrough nuclear technologies. The partnership between the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and leading technical universities is an important part of Russia’s technological leadership ecosystem," said the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Olga Petrova.
The final stage of the "University Programme" was the "Atomic Synthesis" contest. Ten university teams were recognised as winners for delivering the most impactful thematic programmes celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry. When assessing the university programmes, experts from Rosatom and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia considered the diversity of events held, the number of industry partners involved, and the level of engagement of school students, university students, and teaching staff. The awards ceremony took place on 19 December during the All-Russian Congress on Youth Policy and Educational Activities at the National Centre RUSSIA.
The winning teams of the "Atomic Synthesis" contest received certificates from Rosatom for the scientific and educational programme "AtomDiscovery" in 2026. The programme includes travel to nuclear cities, visits to nuclear power plants and production facilities of the nuclear industry. Participants will also be able to complete professional training sessions and develop career pathways together with experts.
