Creating a festive atmosphere and cosiness: a New Year table decoration workshop to be held at the National Centre RUSSIA
Guests of the National Centre RUSSIA will have the opportunity to explore the history of Russian table setting and the traditions that have evolved over time during a New Year table decoration workshop on 20 December.
Experienced mentors will not only talk about the evolution of these traditions, but also present a detailed concept of festive table setting a la russe. Its foundation is a harmonious combination of traditional folk crafts — Gzhel, Khokhloma, and Pavlovo Posad shawls — with contemporary aesthetics. The key colours will be white, gold, red, emerald, and silver.
The workshop programme includes:
— Working with textiles: choosing tablecloths (from snow-white "frosty" options to festive red ones), using patterned runners, and hand-embroidered napkins;
— Introduction to decorative elements by Russian brands: guests will see how Christmas tree ornaments, lace, and handmade items can be incorporated into table setting;
— Practical advice: a step-by-step table-setting guide (from plate placement to glassware selection), building colour schemes ("Russian Winter" or "Imperial New Year"), as well as common mistakes and ways to avoid them;
— Creating the atmosphere: how to complete the festive look using light, aromas (mandarin, cinnamon, pine), and details such as ribbons on chairs and miniature figurines.
All tableware and decor brands presented during the workshop will be available for purchase at the Department Store RUSSIA.
Children under the age of 14 may attend the workshop only when accompanied by parents and/or legal guardians. From the age of 14, independent participation in the workshop is permitted.
The young guest explored the expositions "Journey Across Russia" and "Book of Fairy Tales".
