The National Centre RUSSIA congratulates the residents of Udmurtia on the Day of the Region
The Udmurt Republic celebrates its 105th anniversary. On 4
November 1920, a decree was signed on the creation of the Votsky Autonomous
Region. It was this document that marked the beginning of the formation of
Udmurtia's statehood. Initially, the town of Glazov was named the capital of
the region, but the following year the city of Izhevsk received this honorary
status.
Udmurtia is a land of picturesque forests, pristine rivers
and lakes, abundance of berries, rich industry and culture. This region is
called the armory of our country: it was here that the famous Kalashnikov
assault rifle was put into production in 1949. Today there is a museum
dedicated to the famous gunsmith.
Udmurtia is also famous for its rich culture: in the 19th
century, composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky created his music here. And in 2012,
the world learned about the musical folklore group titled "Buranovskie
Babushki" ("Grandmas from Buranovo", in Russian).
Alexander Brechalov, head of the Udmurt Republic, told the
Press Office of the National Centre RUSSIA that today, Udmurtia is one of the
most attractive regions in terms of tourism.
"Tourism is one of the dynamically developing sectors
of the Udmurt economy. More people began to travel in Udmurtia, and a part of
the reason why it is so is the information support from the "Journey
Across Russia" exposition: if in 2024, 532 thousand trips were recorded in
the republic, then from January to September 2025 — 499 thousand trips. We have
got first-class competitive tourist facilities and projects," Alexander
Brechalov said.
Modular hotels, built in 2024 with the support of the state,
welcome guests. These are 250 rooms in the cities and districts of the
republic. As the head of the Republic noted, 11 more modular hotel construction
projects will be implemented by 2027 in the region. The “Tchaikovsky Express”
retro train operates with a 100% load. It is a regular tourist route from
Izhevsk to Votkinsk, the birthplace of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, which was developed
by the Government of Udmurtia with the support of Russian Railways.
"In 2025, the Tchaikovsky Express made 55 trips,
carrying 6380 travelers from Udmurtia and different regions of Russia. Our
large-scale festivals attract guests from all over the country. During the New
Year holidays of 2026, the ethnic and gastronomic festival named "World
Dumpling Day" will last for 8 days, from 2 to 9 January — so I invite
everyone to Udmurtia!" said Alexander Brechalov, head of the Udmurt
Republic.
In the space of the National Centre RUSSIA, Udmurtia is
represented as part of the Volga Federal District. Anyone can admire the
cultural, tourist and industrial wealth of the region, as well as make a travel
plan, absolutely free of charge and in a visual format.
