The National Centre RUSSIA launches a series of workshops as part of the All-Russian contest "Dreams of the Future"
The National Centre RUSSIA announces the launch of a series of workshops as part of the All-Russian contest «Dreams of the Future.» Participants will be able to experience the entire process of creating a video — from developing an idea to final editing. The contest is taking place within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology.
The program
includes lectures and interactive sessions where experts will share proven
methods and tips on screenplay writing, filming, and editing. Additionally, the
workshops will address the significance of video storytelling as a powerful
tool of influence, capable of inspiring, changing perspectives, and
highlighting important topics — from future technologies to ecology and human
values.
The
workshops are available to registered participants of the contest on the
official website dream.russia.ru.
Topic No.
1: "In the Coordinates of Science Fiction: Why Do Science Fiction Authors
Succeed in Looking into the Future? An Analysis of Modern Trends and Their
Impact on Society."
This
workshop will focus on discussing the role of science fiction in the modern
world. Participants will learn why literature and cinema increasingly turn to
themes and techniques developed in science fiction, and how exploring human
nature and modern technologies relates to influencing the world. The speaker
will also discuss key works that shape the face of science fiction.
The speaker
for this masterclass will be Larisa Mikhailova, Ph.D. in Philology, Senior
Researcher at Moscow State University, editor-in-chief of the journal
"Supernova," and coordinator of the "Fantastic in Art"
sections.
Topic 2:
"Secrets of Screenwriting: From Concept to Filming"
This
workshop is dedicated to the fundamentals of screenwriting, including script
structure, creating a protagonist and antagonist, and key plot turning points.
The speaker will explain why a script is primarily a shooting document, not a
literary piece, and will share tips for aspiring filmmakers. Participants will
also explore the three-act structure using a short film as an example.
Speaker:
Antonina Gilyova, a writer and author of the NovaFiction series from the
Mainstream editorial team of AST publishing (novel "Empathy," 2024),
is a laureate of literary and screenplay awards and the Grand Prix winner of
the international screenwriting competition "New Perspective" in the
category "Best Script for a Short Fiction Film."
The
"Dreams of the Future" contest continues its efforts to rekindle
society's interest in future design, a mission initiated at the International
Symposium "Creating the Future." The competition aims to inspire
young people to contemplate the future and introduce them to the works of
science fiction writers. Participants are required to create a video essay
starting with the words: "We want to create a future in which...,"
with a mandatory reference to science fiction works from a recommended list.
Participants can upload their videos to the website dream.russia.ru until April
24.
