"We have much to learn from you": Zambian journalist on the National Centre RUSSIA
Representatives of leading African media outlets working at
the International Press Centre for the eighth Summit of Heads of State and
Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and the third Russia–Africa
Summit are sharing their impressions of the National Centre RUSSIA. Joseph
Phiri, a journalist with the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation, admitted
that he had fallen in love with our country. His main takeaway from the
National Centre RUSSIA was that there is much to learn here.
A guided tour of the "Journey Across Russia" exposition made a strong
impression on Joseph Phiri. The international visitor was surprised by the care
and respect shown here for the country's history and culture: "Here, I saw
that all the artefacts are carefully documented, which shows how much attention
is paid to preserving the country's history."
The visitor from Africa also found the sections devoted to technological
progress memorable — for example, the display on modern Russian innovations
that make it possible to tackle several diseases simultaneously. Joseph Phiri
promised that, on returning home, he would tell his fellow citizens about how
culture and traditions are preserved in our country.
"The National Centre RUSSIA is more than just a press centre: it is a place where you can truly learn about the country, its history and culture. In my home country, many people have no access to this kind of historical knowledge, so we will certainly devote time in our radio broadcasts to telling people how Russians preserve their cultural legacy, antiques and folk traditions. And I think that we Africans will learn a great deal from you by observing and adopting what you do and how you do it. It is as though you are leading the way for us," said the Zambian journalist.
The International Press Centre at the National Centre RUSSIA will operate
around the clock until 30 October. Around 1,700 media representatives from 70
countries have already been accredited for the summits.
Russia offers African countries a partnership of equals founded on sovereignty.
For the Tanzanian journalist, the journey across Russia is only beginning — as it is for many of his colleagues who are discovering our country for the first time at the National Centre RUSSIA.
