The National Centre RUSSIA and the Chuvash Republic sign agreement to develop the "Embroidered Map of Russia" project
On June 24 in Cheboksary, the National Centre RUSSIA signed an agreement with the Ministry of Culture, Nationalities, and Archives of the Chuvash Republic and the Chuvash National Museum on cooperation and collaboration for the further development of the "Embroidered Map of Russia" project. As part of the celebration of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Chuvash Autonomous Region, the General Director of the National Centre RUSSIA, Natalia Virtuozova, paid a working visit to the region. The visit included participation in major cultural events, a meeting with the Head of the Chuvash Republic, Oleg Nikolayev, and the signing of a cooperation agreement between the National Centre RUSSIA and the Museum of the Embroidered Map.
This event marked a continuation of the partnership established during the International RUSSIA EXPO, where the "Embroidered Map of Russia," created in Chuvashia, was presented. The artistic canvas brought together examples of national embroidery from all regions of the country. The project became one of the main symbols of the exposition: the "Embroidered Map of Russia" greeted visitors at the arch of the main entrance to VDNH, while the original artwork, which included more than 200 types of embroidery and materials, held a place of honour in Pavilion No. 75 among the expositions of all Russian regions.
The signing ceremony took place at the Museum of the Embroidered Map of Russia. The Head of the Chuvash Republic, Oleg Nikolayev, gave a tour to the General Director of the National Centre RUSSIA, Natalia Virtuozova, sharing in detail the history behind the creation of the piece. Today, a copy of the "Embroidered Map of Russia" installation welcomes visitors to the "Journey Across Russia" exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA, continuing its mission to unite the country’s cultural legacy.
The meeting also focused on new promising projects. This year, the space of the National Centre RUSSIA will feature the "Musical Map" of the country, inspired by the success of the embroidered canvas. This new initiative will serve as a natural continuation of the tradition: 89 composers will create musical calling cards representing their respective regions.
"Oleg Alexeyevich's idea to create the embroidered map turned out to be a brilliant solution, which has inspired us to pursue new projects. We see how traditional crafts can become the foundation for contemporary cultural initiatives that unite the entire country," noted Natalia Virtuozova.
The culmination of this initiative will be a large-scale gala concert at the National Centre RUSSIA on Unity Day.
The new agreement opens a new chapter in the development of both projects, strengthening cultural ties between Russia's regions, noted the Head of the Chuvash Republic.
"This document reaffirms our fruitful cooperation with the National Centre RUSSIA in strengthening the spiritual foundations of Russian society. The 'Embroidered Map of Russia', rooted in centuries-old traditions, vividly demonstrates the unity of the peoples of our country. Chuvashia is ready to continue contributing to this important cause," emphasised Oleg Nikolayev.
The "Embroidered Map of Russia" project, initiated by the Head of Chuvashia in 2022, brought together around 350 artisans from across the country. In its three years of existence, the project has gained wide recognition, was presented at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, and has received prestigious awards. The new agreement marks the beginning of a new stage in the development of this unique project, further strengthening cultural ties between Russia’s regions.
Today, on June 24, the Chuvash Republic celebrates its 105th anniversary.
