The Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area Week to be held at the National Centre RUSSIA
From 10 to 15 February, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area Days will take place at the venue of the "Book of Fairy Tales" exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA. Guests will enjoy a rich programme, including events dedicated to the culture, landmarks, natural wealth, traditions, and strategic potential of one of the most important regions of the Russian North.
The highlight of the event will be an address by the Governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area, Dmitry Artyukhov. On 13 February, he will present the region's development strategy up to 2030.
Sports enthusiasts will have the chance tomeet representatives of the volleyball club "Fakel Yamal" ("Torch Yamal"), which celebrated its 30th anniversary on 7 February. Guests will also have the opportunity to talk with two-time champions of Russia and multiple winners of the National Cup in snow volleyball, as well as participate in prize draws with balls and other prizes.
Visitors to the National Centre RUSSIA will also be able to take part in cultural and educational events. Among them is a bone carving workshop and a demonstration of making a pendant from ready-made slices of reindeer antler, decorated with beads. During the concert programme "Traditions and Innovations", the audience will see dance compositions with national attributes and musical instruments, choreographic performances, and folk songs in the languages of the indigenous peoples of the North.
Guests are also invited to a meeting with writers from Yamal. The discussion will be dedicated to the contemporary life of folk epics. Folklorist and prominent representative of the Khanty people Zinaida Longortova and author from Tarko-Sale Kristina Gofman will take the stage. They will talk about how folk epics can inspire the creation of new heroes and storylines.
A screening of the documentary film "Urengoy. The Field of the First", created by the "Masterskaya" ("Workshop") studio for the half-century anniversary of Novy Urengoy — the gas capital of Russia — is also planned. The film is based on the real memories of the pioneers who, in the harsh conditions of the Far North, developed the fields and made a technological breakthrough comparable in scale to space exploration.
Furthermore, the organisers of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area Days have organised a competition — "I Want to Go to Yamal". Visitors to the National Centre RUSSIA aged 14 and over can participate. The main prize is a trip to the festival of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North, known as "Reindeer Herder's Day", in March 2026. Contestants are invited to the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area stand at the "Book of Fairy Tales" exposition.
As part of the educational programme, a motivational session "Open Lesson on Leadership and Politics" will be held, timed to coincide with the 120th anniversary of Russian parliamentarism.
All events at the National Centre RUSSIA are free of charge. Some of them require registration in advance on the website russia.ru. Please see the current schedule of events in the "Events" section.
