New point of attraction: the first branch of the National Centre RUSSIA in the Caucasus is planned to open next year
The Director General of the National Centre RUSSIA, Natalia Virtuozova, held a meeting with the Head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, Kazbek Kokov, on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum 2026. The main topic of the conversation was the creation of a branch of the National Centre RUSSIA in Nalchik and its role in the cultural and educational life of the region.
"The team of the Head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic has done a great deal of work and proposed a well-thought-out concept for the branch. We see serious potential in the space in Nalchik as a future centre of attraction for residents and guests of the Republic, a place for creativity, communication, events and the implementation of youth initiatives. It is important for us that active life forms around it, and that the National Centre is filled with events and people. I am confident that the region has every opportunity for this. We will support the project at every stage of implementation and are ready to share our experience so that the future branch becomes truly sought-after," Natalia Virtuozova noted.
The branch of the National Centre RUSSIA in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic will be located in the Palace of Creative Youth in the very centre of Nalchik, on Shogentsukov Avenue, opposite the Government House and Concord Square, next to the park and resort area. Construction of the building is in its final stage, and commissioning is planned for next year.
"The National Centre RUSSIA space in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic is planned to host events at regional, national and international levels. This will contribute to cultural exchange between residents and guests of the region, strengthen harmony between peoples, and preserve the rich cultural legacy of our multinational country. I am sincerely grateful to the leadership of the National Centre RUSSIA for their attention and support in implementing our project," said Kazbek Kokov.
The project for the future space is built around the image of Mount Elbrus as the main symbol of the Republic. The highest point in Russia and Europe becomes not only a recognisable visual symbol, but also the basis for the route scenario: the exposition is divided into two halls, the "Southern" and "Northern" slopes, which reflect different aspects of the region’s character. One is warm, hospitable and cultural, while the other is more austere, creative and future-oriented. The route is designed so that visitors move from an emotional introduction to Kabardino-Balkaria towards an understanding of its scale, projects and development prospects.
The branch concept includes a permanent exposition and temporary expositions, a zone for workshops, lectures and meetings, as well as spaces for business and cultural events. An important part of the exposition will be dedicated to the people of the region and their contribution to the development of the Republic and the country: from culture and tourism to industry, science and medicine. A separate chamber section is devoted to the story of heroes of the special military operation.
The project for the space in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic was approved by the Organising Committee of the National Centre RUSSIA during the presentation of regional branch concepts. The event was held at the National Centre RUSSIA on 19 March.
The unusual art object was created by the National Centre RUSSIA together with the Government of the Tambov Region and the Kotovsk Nevalyashka Factory.
Natalia Virtuozova is convinced that visiting expositions in person remains especially important.
