Innovative and daring genre: a lecture on the transport architecture of Russia will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA
On July 31, at 18:00, the National Centre RUSSIA will host a lecture "Transport Architecture of Russia", which will continue the cycle "Symbols of Time" with art critic and architectural historian Elizaveta Likhacheva.
Speakers will be: Airat Bagautdinov, architectural historian, tour guide, head of the educational company "Through the Engineer's Eyes", chairman of the Interregional Union of Guides, and Alexander Zmeul, Candidate of Historical Sciences, independent researcher, curator, author and publicist.
Experts will discuss the history of transport architecture development in Russia, which has always combined advanced engineering solutions, technologies and the mastery of designers. Despite the fact that the main purpose of construction of these facilities was to create efficient transport hubs that are vital for our large country, architects have always sought to create buildings that are as aesthetic and comfortable as possible for passengers.
"Transport architecture is one of the most innovative, daring, experimental genres of the last 150 years, because train stations are something new, they did not exist before, they appeared in the middle of the 19th century. And the architects started to think about how they should look — to express the image of the solemn gates of the city, or a palace, a public building, or something technological. We will talk about the history of transport architecture in our lecture," said Airat Bagautdinov.
During the lecture, the audience will get acquainted with the main kinds of transport architecture, learn from experts about the latest projects in this field, and about the most impressive train stations, airports, bridges and even garages in Russia.
You can attend events of the educational programme free of charge, pre-registration on the website of the National Centre RUSSIA russia.ru required. Up-to-date information can be found in the "Events" section.
