A new symbol of the city: Anton Nadtochiy speaks about the National Centre RUSSIA building at the ARCH MOSCOW exposition
The future building of the National Centre RUSSIA will
change perceptions of urban public spaces and become one of the main symbols of
the capital. This was stated by Anton Nadtochiy, Co-Founder and Chief Architect
of the ATRIUM architectural studio, at the XXXI International Exposition and
Forum of Architecture and Design ARCH MOSCOW. The President of Russia, Vladimir
Putin, launched the construction of the new building on 26 March 2026.
"It is important for us that the new National Centre
RUSSIA should not overwhelm people with its scale, but instead bring life
together around it. With a total area of more than 215,000 square metres, the
project must retain a sense of permeability, air and freedom," said Anton
Nadtochiy, Co-Founder and Chief Architect of the ATRIUM architectural studio
and Chief Architect of the National Centre RUSSIA building project.
The architect recalled that the National Centre RUSSIA is
conceived as one of the key public points of attraction in Moscow of the
future. The centre will have a one-time capacity of around 20,000 people. This
will make it possible to hold major expositions, congresses, concerts, press
conferences and public events. At the same time, the structure of the building
will be organised in such a way that visitors do not feel lost in its scale,
but find themselves in a clear, well-organised environment.
The self-supporting spatial roof, covering an area of around
60,000 square metres, has become the key engineering and visual element of the
project. It is this element that creates the feeling of a large, light canopy
that brings together different functions and spaces beneath it, helping to
shape natural routes and scenarios.
According to Anton Nadtochiy, the value of the project lies
in the fact that it does not rely on ready-made templates or reproduce existing
images, but offers its own vision of what a national cultural and public centre
can be in the 21st century.
The architect also explained that, for ATRIUM, it is
fundamentally important to design the building as part of a complex urban
environment where architecture, landscape and public spaces work together. This
approach makes it possible to unite scale, technology and artistic vision in a
single, coherent concept.
In addition, the award in the "Architects of the
Year" nomination was presented at the XXXI International Exposition and
Forum of Architecture and Design ARCH MOSCOW. The winner was the ATRIUM
architectural studio, recognised for its contribution to the development of
modern Russian architecture.
The immersive pavilion installation can be seen at the stand
of the ATRIUM architectural studio at the XXXI International Exposition and
Forum of Architecture and Design ARCH MOSCOW until 30 May at Gostiny Dvor in
Moscow.
As part of the Open Lecture Hall "Inventing the Future: Ecotourism", the geographical readings "Mosaic of the Peoples of the Far East" were also held.
