On Cosmonautics Day at the RUSSIA EXPO, the lecture hall of the Russian Society "Knowledge" will host the session "Capturing the Future: Science Fiction, Prognostics, Space". Renowned scientists, analysts, science fiction writers, movie directors and screenwriters will discuss the image of Russia's future through movies, TV series, video games based on science fiction, as well as present technological novelties and upcoming movie premieres.

The session is organized by the federal program "New Media Workshop", which develops the largest community of media technologists, forming a constructive and safe information environment, and the Russian Society "Knowledge ".

Yulia Ablets, deputy general director of the ANO "Dialogue Regions" and founder of "New Media Workshop": "In difficult times, it is especially important to preserve the dream of the future: technological, understandable, created by our hands. And in this sense, fiction is particularly useful, teaching us not only to dream, but also to design the future. As we remember from history, good science fiction shaped the images for scientific progress: first science fiction writers wrote stories, and then scientists figured out how to make these scenarios come true. We at the New Media Workshop are confident that a constructive dream about our common future will help us shape the kind of Russia in which each of us wants to live."

Oleg Trofim, film director, screenwriter, producer: "The genre of fiction, while having an entertaining artistic wrapping, has always been and remains a medium for discussion of important and urgent ideas that other genres cannot afford".

The centerpiece of the event will be a panel session titled "Creating an Image of the Future. Science Fiction and Prognostics as a Tool for Shaping the Image of the Future". Participants will discuss how the image of the future can be formulated in Russia and the world, who can take responsibility for it, and what the role of science fiction writers in this process is.

At the TED-session "Through Generations to the Stars: Where Science Leads Us" scientists, immersive technology product developers and futurologists will analyze examples of sci-fi writers of the past, review current technological innovations and scenarios of future development — as futurologists see them today.

The series will conclude with the session "It's Fantastic: The State of the Genre in Russia in 2024" with representatives of the movie, comic book, and video game industries, who develop content in the field of sci-fi. The experts will tell who is creating science fiction and what movie projects to expect in the near future.
