A giant tricolour and a coat-of-arms quiz: National Flag Day celebrated at the National Centre RUSSIA in the Primorye Territory
The National Centre RUSSIA in the Primorye Territory was among the first to congratulate residents and visitors to the Territory on Russian National Flag Day. In the morning, volunteers carried out a 2.5-by-7-metre tricolour and ceremonially unfurled it in front of the main entrance. Staff at the National Centre RUSSIA in the Primorye Territory explained the significance of the campaign to those gathered.
"The State Flag of the Russian Federation is a symbol that encourages us to think about the future and do everything possible to ensure that Russia remains a truly strong and powerful nation. It is important for the younger generation to understand its significance. Our flag plays a role in educating young people: it inspires confidence that our country takes pride in its history, stands strong and looks to the future with confidence. We cherish this symbol in our hearts, and it plays an important role in the life of each of us," Elvira Shamonova noted.
The participants from the Voin (Warrior) Centre for Military and Sports Training and Patriotic Education of Young People then took up the baton: young people from across the Territory also unfurled the flag.
"I am taking part in the campaign because I love and respect my Motherland. Holidays like this help patriots express their feelings and share them with their fellow citizens," noted Zlata Yurtayeva from Ussuriysk, a participant at the Voin Centre.
The celebration concluded with a quiz testing participants’ knowledge of the coats of arms of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Young people attending the "#UM: I Know How, I Can" session at the "Ocean" All-Russian Children’s Centre took part. They had to identify the correct arrangement of elements on coats of arms, explain the meanings of various symbols and answer questions about the country’s principal tricolour. They learnt about the history of the black, yellow and white flag adopted during the reign of Alexander II, the meaning of the beehive on the coat of arms of the Tambov Region and the significance of gold in heraldry.
"This was our first visit to the National Centre with the children. We enjoyed it very much and even managed to write a short post for our group’s channel. The quiz helped them learn something new about the country. Everyone participated actively, and no one was left with nothing to do," said Milana Denisova, a counsellor at the Ocean All-Russian Children’s Centre.
The Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation is celebrated annually on 22 August.
The lecture "Whoever Writes the Past Controls the Future" will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA on 28 August at 19:00.
