Oscar for the rout of the German troops, gifts from Chaplin and Einstein: the Museum of Cinema invites guests
It is
especially interesting to study the great Soviet past through the prism of
cinematography. You can find yourself in the world of the brilliant director
Sergei Eisenstein, witness one of the major battles of World War II and see a
unique collection of world awards of Russian filmmakers.
Sergei
Eisenstein's Study
There is a
place at VDNH that is a must-see for anyone interested in history and culture
and passionate about good movies. This is the Museum of Cinema, which
exposition is available for free during the International RUSSIA EXPO. The
museum has several permanent expositions. And one of the most interesting is
Sergei Eisenstein's Study. The world-famous Soviet filmmaker, who is called the
father of montage, left a rich legacy, which is still interesting to study.
For
example, one can see unique photos presented to the director by his great
contemporaries - Charlie Chaplin, Albert Einstein, James Joyce. The collection
also includes books in several languages with Eisenstein's notes. In total, there
are more than 300 memorials in the exposition: from furniture to personal
belongings.
Exposition "He Filmed the Difficult Life
of War"
The
exposition, opened on the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of
Stalingrad, offers a look at the war through the eyes of documentary filmmakers
- direct participants of the events. It also tells how the defense of
Stalingrad was portrayed in the feature films of the Soviet era. You can see
posters, storyboards, sketches of costumes, objects and photos from the
shooting, personal belongings of documentary cameramen. All this helps to form
your own view of the movie process of those times. And most importantly - to
understand and feel yourself in the place of a person who faced the harsh
trials of wartime.
Exposition
"Time of Victories"
It is no secret that the Soviet cinematography, despite its distinctiveness, holds an important place in the world culture. The achievements of Soviet directors, cameramen, screenwriters and actors have been repeatedly recognized at the most prestigious festivals and awards. One of the main exhibits is an Oscar statuette from 1943 for the monumental documentary Moscow Strikes Back. The award can be seen in the Labyrinth of History section of the exposition.
The Nika and Golden Eagle awards can be seen in one of the sections of the exposition Vertical dedicated to Stanislav Govorukhin. Also, at the exposition there are awards that have not been exhibited before. For example, prizes of one of the oldest and most authoritative international film festivals - the Leipzig Festival of Documentary and Animated Pictures. The collection is also constantly being replenished with prizes of contemporary film makers.
