The last days of the "Birth of Scale" architectural exposition: do not miss out a chance to see the main masterpieces of Russian architecture
Just 3 days are left before the "Birth of Scale" large-scale architectural expo at the National Centre RUSSIA closes down. Hurry up to get acquainted with the unique models collection of iconic Russian projects: from completed masterpieces to daring unrealized ideas. Among more than 200 exhibits, there are iconic objects that have become symbols of different epochs of Russian architecture.
Tatlin's Tower
Tatlin's Tower is also known as a Monument to the Third Communist International. It was planned to be built in Leningrad, but in the late 1920s the country's authorities changed the attitude towards constructivism, and the building was never built.
Stalin's high-raises
Eight of Stalin's skyscrapers were planned to be built in 1947, to mark the 800th anniversary of Moscow. Seven buildings were constructed, and the eighth was supposed to be built on the site of Zaryadye Park, but the project was never implemented.
Sukharev Tower
Sukharev Tower was built in 1695-1701 by the initiative of Peter the Great. It was located at the intersection of the Garden Ring, Sretenka and 1st Meshchanskaya Street (now Mira Avenue) in Moscow. In 1934, by order of Stalin, it was demolished.
Lakhta Centre
The height of the Lakhta centre is 462 meters. It is the northernmost skyscraper in the world, and it is also the tallest building in Russia and Europe.
Architectural ensemble of Kizhi Pogost
Kizhi Pogost is the apex of wooden architecture and a true symbol of Russia abroad. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Pogost is one of the largest open-air museums in Russia.
A separate section of the display is dedicated to futuristic projects — "Saturnium" (a ring-city) and "Flying City", which show the unlimited imagination of Soviet architects. These concepts, created decades ago, look surprisingly modern today.
Young visitors are particularly impressed by the interactive elements of the expo.
"I really enjoyed the excursion, schoolgirl Taisiya shares her emotions. — Most of all, I liked how we measured steps and meters. I was surprised by the fortresses and ships made of wood. I will take with me joyful, funny and unforgettable feelings from here."
The exposition was an eye-opener for many adult visitors. Irina, who visited the display with her one-year-old daughter, notes:
"I learned new facts and filled in the gaps in my knowledge about the architecture of our country. I feel pride in our specialists, because their concepts and ideas are amazing. The guide captivated both me and my child with the story. Everything was structured, and the narration was in simple language, I felt the experience and involvement of the guide."
