A festive guide from the National Centre RUSSIA: what to watch with the whole family during the winter holidays
The winter holidays are a perfect time to gather the whole
family in front of the screen and immerse yourselves in a world of magic, music
and kind, meaningful stories. We invite you to relive together the vivid
emotions that the main New Year premieres and festive programmes of the
National Centre RUSSIA have brought to audiences. Recordings are available on
the russia.ru website in the "Livestreams and Videos" section.
"Morozko" — the main premiere of this winter
The author’s multi-genre stage production, which premiered
on 27 December, is a modern and touching fairy tale about what truly matters,
told in a contemporary language. The key feature of the production is its
multi-genre format: ballet, opera, folk and expressive choreography are
seamlessly combined in the performance.
At the heart of the story is a family that has lost the
tradition of spending time together amid the bustle of everyday life. Dreaming
of restoring warmth and mutual understanding, the younger daughter, Nastenka,
finds herself in a fairy-tale world, while her family embarks on a dangerous
journey to bring the girl home — and, in the process, to rediscover themselves.
The idea for "Morozko" belongs to Bolshoi Theatre
principal dancer Igor Tsvirko. The production features artists and ensembles
from the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko
Music Theatre, the Kremlin Ballet Theatre, the Theatre at Nikitsky Gate, the
Vakhtangov Theatre and the Theatre of Nations, as well as the Russian National
Ballet "Kostroma", the Ledyakh Choreographic College, the Russian
musical folklore group "Buranovskie Babushki", the musical folklore
ensemble "Vertograd" led by Inna Kameneva and Yuri Stupak, a
contemporary dance company led by Lesha Kot, leading performers of Moscow
theatres, opera soloists, and theatre and film actors.
During the New Year holidays, performances will take place
daily from 6 to 11 January. A repeat performance is also scheduled for 14
January. Immerse yourself in a story where a true miracle begins with the
ability to listen to those closest to you.
"The Nutcracker" — a classic in multimedia scenery
On the eve of 2025, the magical ballet "The
Nutcracker" was presented on the stage of the National Centre RUSSIA — a
harmonious symbiosis of classical choreography and modern technology. The role
of the Prince was performed by Bolshoi Theatre principal dancer Igor Tsvirko,
while the role of Marie was danced by leading Bolshoi Theatre soloist Kristina
Kretova. The production’s special value lies in its more than 100 unique
costumes, which stylistically intertwine with the digital scenery. This
recording is a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to be transported
into a world of sweet dreams set to the immortal music of Pyotr Ilyich
Tchaikovsky. In addition, the performance can be watched on the night of 7–8
January at 00:00 (Moscow time) on the TV channel Bolshoi Efir (Big Air).
"Living Christmas Windows" — a musical journey
through the ages
This concert programme, also presented during last year’s
festive season at the National Centre RUSSIA, is a wonderful way to feel the
atmosphere of a bright Christmas. Artists of different genres immerse audiences
in the story of one Christmas night: from lively traditional carols and refined
operatic arias at an imperial ball to beloved songs from Soviet films
accompanied by a symphony orchestra. This large-scale journey in three acts
("Traditions", "Aspiration for the Future" and "The
Present") brings warmth, comfort and a sense of togetherness.
Vocal parts in the concert were performed by Honoured Artist of Russia and Bolshoi Theatre soloist Agunda Kulayeva, Mariinsky Theatre soloist Natalia Pavlova, Bolshoi Theatre soloist Ksenia Dezhneva, Mariinsky Theatre soloist Alexander Trofimov, Mariinsky Theatre soloist Andrei Serov, European champion, eight-time Russian champion and world beatbox champion Vakhtang, and other stars. The conductors were Honoured Artist of Russia and Bolshoi Theatre conductor Pavel Sorokin, and one of the most sought-after conductors in Russia and worldwide, Russian-Italian conductor Fabio Mastrangelo.
