Projects of the future planet: an architecture workshop held at the National Centre RUSSIA
The children's workshop "Planetopia" took place at the National Centre RUSSIA on April 1 as part of the educational program of the exposition "The Birth of Scale." The event focused on creating an architectural project of the future planet.
The session was conducted by teachers from the School of Future Architecture SETKA, architect Yegor Orlov and artist Irina Golovanova.
Participants followed the example of modern architects who develop unique master plan concepts aimed at the complete transformation of Earth and its rescue from an impending environmental catastrophe. Schoolchildren envisioned how the planet's evolution would unfold over the next 500 years, shared an exciting story of its creation, and brought their ideas to life in bold architectural forms.
"Architects around the world say that environmental problems cannot be solved through isolated actions — we need planetary architecture. Inspired by their bold vision, we invited participants to create their own fantastic transformer planet, capable of metamorphosing in shape and size. On an A3 sheet, an image was born: on one side, the planet in its pristine state; on the other, transformed by time over centuries and millennia. Participants filled out questionnaires, giving their worlds names, defining their geometry, evolutionary trajectory, and the creatures inhabiting them. At the end of the master class, we created our own Solar System: cut-out planets, attached to foam board, formed a ceremonial parade, suspended from the ceiling. Each author passionately shared the story of their project!" noted Yegor Orlov, a teacher at the School of Future Architecture SETKA.
Under the guidance of instructors, participants developed a concept for the architectural planet of the future, considering ecological, social, and technological changes. They also envisioned how Earth would evolve, what transformations its landscape and infrastructure would undergo, and created bold architectural forms.
"We registered and came to the National Centre RUSSIA for the 'Journey Across Russia' exposition and the master class with my grandson Dmitry. I drew a planet where unusual trees and flowers grow, and named it 'Flowers.' My grandson created a square planet from the computer world, where ragdoll-like people live, and named it 'Blocksyum,'" shared visitor Yelena Logacheva.
At the workshop, both children and adults learned teamwork, design skills, and new architectural approaches.
"I created a planet with different seasons on each side, and named it 'Climatorus.' This was the first time my daughter and I attended such an engaging master class. We both really enjoyed it. It really stimulates imagination and spatial thinking," shared participant Nadezhda Mozhayeva.
Participation in such workshops is free of charge. To attend, registration is required on the website russia.ru in the "Events" section.
The "The Birth of Scale" exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA showcases realized architectural projects as well as ideas that remain only as concepts. The exposition is open to the public for free.
