"Joy in children’s eyes is what matters most": Kristina Kretova on the New Year performance "Morozko"
Live audience emotions and children’s delight are the main indicators of success for an artist. According to Bolshoi Theatre principal ballerina Kristina Kretova, who performed the role of the Firebird, the team behind the performance "Morozko" created a true New Year celebration for the whole family on stage.
"We managed to achieve the most important thing, to create a New Year celebration and bring the atmosphere of a winter fairy tale to every guest. We saw this joy: the audience danced, sang along with us, and tried to repeat the ballet movements. We succeeded in making our children happy and giving them a New Year mood. The joy in their eyes is what matters most to us," Kristina Kretova said.
The ballerina also noted that an important task of the performance is not only to entertain, but also to take into account the moral and educational dimension that is usually present in any children’s fairy tale. "Our characters, in my view, first and foremost teach kindness. In this performance, and not only in it, the Firebird is the embodiment of good. She gives her feather to the fairy-tale heroes precisely in order to help. And I very much hope that both children and adults, having watched 'Morozko', take away above all this feeling, the desire to do good," she added.
The multi-genre performance "Morozko" became one of the central New Year events at the National Centre RUSSIA. More than 12,000 spectators attended the production at the National Centre RUSSIA, while the online version attracted over 3.5 million views.
