Russia — SCO: food security is impossible without innovation and science
An international round table " Russia — SCO: Cooperation for Sustainable Development" took place at the National Centre RUSSIA. The participants discussed food security, the development of technological cooperation between the member states, and the promotion of innovative approaches in agriculture.
Traditionally, the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) has been the main link in advancing agricultural science and education worldwide. RUDN runs research programmes in nine areas: from agronomy to bioengineering, from veterinary medicine to standardisation and metrology, which is responsible for food quality control. The university also serves as a centre for SCO university cooperation, bringing together several countries into a single network.
"Our university serves as the rectorate of the SCO Network University, which provides unique opportunities for coordinating and developing a common educational and scientific space," said the Director of the Agrarian and Technological Institute of RUDN, Elvira Dovletyarova.
The participants of the round table emphasised that food security is impossible without innovation and presented innovative approaches in digital technologies and quality control.
"We have eight areas of activity. These are veterinary control, the circulation of veterinary medicines, the circulation of pesticides and agrochemicals, the monitoring of agricultural land, plant quarantine, seed production, and grain quality control. More than six million agricultural production, processing, storage and trade facilities are subject to inspection and supervision. Thanks to our own information technologies, we analyse all transactions involving products under our control. With the use of artificial intelligence and analytical modules, we now conduct a comprehensive analysis of data from veterinary accompanying documents, and the time required for information analysis has been reduced 30-fold. Consequently, it now takes us much less time to process the data. We also integrate our information systems with various countries," said the Assistant to the Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor), Artem Daushev.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is an international organisation of Asian countries dealing with economic cooperation and security, and countering extremism and terrorism. Its members include Russia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Belarus.
The international scientific conference "Food Quality Food Safety" will run at the National Centre RUSSIA until 24 September and will then move to the Patrice Lumumba RUDN University on 25 September.
