Russian scientists presented the success stories of their projects at the National Centre RUSSIA
On 8 October, as part of the open programme of the II International Symposium "Inventing the Future", an event titled "Case Study: Projects and Innovations Changing the World" was held at the National Centre RUSSIA. Scientists spoke about the creation of their landmark projects and the specifics of their research work.
During the event, the researchers shared personal stories — not only of their achievements but also of what usually remains behind the scenes: doubts, unexpected turns and moments that forever changed their professional paths.
Daniil Bredikhin, founder of the "Smart Sticker" project, shared his story of success. He spoke about the project created to help visually impaired people. Later, it evolved to include artificial intelligence. Now it is a sticker that opens a dialogue with a neural network on the user’s smartphone. The "Smart Sticker" can act as a shopping assistant, a museum guide, help plan a transport route, or offer advice on a café menu. The creator of the innovation noted that at various stages the project received little attention — but that only motivated the team to push harder for success.
"I realised that growth is only possible during a crisis — even an emotional one. Sometimes I even seek it out. I like when things get tough, when you have to find a solution. It’s amazing when something doesn’t work out, and you still don’t give up!" said Daniil Bredikhin.
Facts about the use of AI in medicine were presented by cardiac surgeon and Director General of EXPERT OPINION, Gleb Kim, author of the Expert Opinion AI project — the first Russian artificial intelligence system for cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. His project is an expert system designed to help doctors choose the right strategy for treating patients with heart and vascular diseases, based on data analysed by AI.
"We create protocols that allow real-time monitoring of changes in a patient’s condition and provide doctors with recommendations on what to do in each case," said Gleb Kim.
Kirill Martinson, Advisor to the Director of the Research Institute of Applied Materials Science at Obukhov Plant JSC and recipient of the 2024 Presidential Award in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists, emphasised that today there are tools that not only popularise science but also bring researchers closer to the business community.
"Every scientific discovery is preceded by long and hard work. But if we talk about the commercialisation of science, it’s important to understand whether you have the necessary entrepreneurial competencies. And if not, you should find a partner who can help turn your discovery into a profitable venture," said Kirill Martinson.
The II International Symposium "Inventing the Future" is being held on 7–8 October at the National Centre RUSSIA and brings together participants from more than 85 countries, as well as all regions of the Russian Federation. The event features over 260 Russian and foreign experts from China, the USA, Italy, Latin American countries, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
The International Symposium "Inventing the Future" is organised on the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, under the auspices of the Decade of Science and Technology, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, and the Ministry of Culture of Russia. Analytical partner is VCIOM Analytical Centre. Literary partner is Eksmo-AST Publishing Group.
The first group believes in the boundless potential of progress, while the second fears that technological development poses a new challenge to humanity.
