Sergei Ginzburg: "Russian Seasons" helped shape the image of Russia in Europe
The legendary "Russian Seasons" played an important role in shaping the image of Russia in Europe, and became a unique phenomenon of world culture. This was stated by film director Sergei Ginzburg after seeing the original multi-genre performance "Russian Seasons. Spring" at the National Centre RUSSIA.
"This is a very interesting production. I would call it... a polyphonic performance, featuring dramatic actors, opera singers, musicians, and ballet. This is always very complex, but also very spectacular. The history of the 'Russian Seasons' is unique. I cannot recall anyone before or after that who would transmit Russian culture in such a concentrated manner and on such a scale. Thanks to them, the fashion 'à la russe' was born. It was then that Europe discovered such a large, mysterious country – Russia. And the time itself was unique. There was an explosion in art, painting, music, and ballet. Together, this helped create the image of Russia," said Sergei Ginzburg.
Sergei Ginzburg's wife, actress Olga Vinichenko, shared that she was particularly impressed by the multimedia design, created for each scene, as well as the selection of artists involved in the performance. "It's great that this performance featured wonderful artists from the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, the Vakhtangov Theatre, the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre, and many others. In my opinion, this production is not only for adults but also for children."
The run of the original multi-genre performance "Russian Seasons. Spring" was part of the festive programme held by the National Centre RUSSIA and dedicated to International Women's Day. The performances took place on 7 and 8 March on the stage of the National Centre RUSSIA. The production reminded audiences of our country's contribution to world art, the strength and courage of Russian women of the stage, and showed how the legacy of the early 20th century continues to inspire spectators of all ages today.
