Sergei Kalinin: trusting family relationships help protect children from cyber fraudsters
To protect a child from becoming involved in fraudulent schemes and unlawful activities, it is important to follow a number of rules. However, trusting relationships within the family remain the key factor in protecting children. This was stated by Sergei Kalinin, First Deputy Head of the Cybercrime Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, during the «Dialogue on Fakes 4.0» forum at the National Centre RUSSIA.
«It seems to me that the most important matter is to have a trusting relationship with children. Of course, there are basic rules: don’t trust strangers and don’t believe fraudsters. But the main thing is to build a normal human relationship with your child, so that they know where to turn in a difficult situation. Children most often become involved in unlawful activities because they want to earn money independently or as a result of gradual recruitment and blackmail. A child should understand that their parents and their relationship with their parents are their main point of reference," Sergei Kalinin stressed.
He emphasised the importance of legal education for children and parents, as well as involving teenagers in active offline activities. According to him, work in this area requires coordinated efforts by government authorities, educational institutions, public organisations and families.
