Sergei Kiriyenko and Sergei Sobyanin presented the model of the new building of the National Centre RUSSIA
On July 7,
First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian
Federation Sergei Kiriyenko and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin visited the
exposition of the National Centre RUSSIA. During the visit, the concept of a
new exposition complex designed to showcase the achievements of the Russian
Federation was unveiled.
Sergei
Kiriyenko, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of
the Russian Federation, noted that the RUSSIA EXPO ranked among the ten most
visited places in the world.
"These
results were recorded not over a year, as is usually the case, but over nine
months — and it placed seventh. It’s not just about the numbers, but the
emotions people left with. The main visitors were children, school pupils, and
students. Sociologists conducted many surveys: 96 –97% of visitors left the
exposition saying they felt a sense of pride for their country. Pride and
dreams — these were the two key sentiments associated with the exposition, and
now with the National Centre RUSSIA," said Sergei Kiriyenko.
He stated
that there is currently no comparable centre anywhere in the world. Kiriyenko
stressed that the space is imbued with key meanings linked to the future and
the development of the country. The architectural design of the new building
was developed with regard to the vast legacy Russia is proud of, as well as the
dreams that inspire the younger generation today.
"Following
the instructions of President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, the Moscow
Government has commenced the creation of an exposition complex for the National
Centre RUSSIA. The permanent exposition at Presnya will preserve the legacy of
the International RUSSIA EXPO, which was held with impressive success at VDNH.
In 2023 – 2024, it was visited by over 18.5 million people. As a result of the
project, Moscow will gain a world-class exposition venue. This unique
exposition complex will become a new point of attraction for Moscow residents
and visitors to the capital," said Sergei Sobyanin.
The
decision to create the National Centre RUSSIA was made by the President of the
Russian Federation in July 2024. The complex will be built on the grounds of
Expocentre on Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment. The total area of the
multifunctional exposition space will be approximately 205,000 square metres.
"The
National Centre RUSSIA was created at the instruction of our President and it
continues to evolve — we are building a truly unique and innovative space. It
will be more than just a building: it will be a place where cutting-edge
technologies are combined with nature, culture, and human interaction. A space
where people can dream, create, learn, and be inspired. It will feature modern
architecture, a beautiful park, and a large number of open-air events. We hope
that everyone — from any corner of the country or the world — will be able to
come here and see everything that Russia is proud of. We thank the team of the
Mayor of Moscow for supporting this important project," said Natalia
Virtuozova, Director General of the National Centre RUSSIA.
The concept
of the new centre is designed in a bionic style and reflects the country's
diverse visual identity. The shape of the building evokes its natural
landscapes, while its silhouette resembles a drifting snow cover and vast open
spaces.
The
building's horizontal lines will stand in striking contrast to the verticals of
Moscow City, distinguished by organic fluidity and dynamic contours.
The
National Centre RUSSIA is set to become one of the country’s key public spaces
— a new calling card of the nation and its capital. In addition to exposition
areas (60,000 square metres), the complex will include a concert hall with a
transformable stage and audience seating, a media centre, and a youth creative
cluster. The project also provides for a congress centre, spaces for business
communication and networking, as well as a food market.
A signature
feature of the project is the multimedia facade, which will adapt to the events
taking place — from displaying national symbols on public holidays to themed
art installations during cultural events.
At present,
engineering surveys are underway on the site, along with preparatory works
aimed at preserving part of the Expocentre buildings to ensure their continued
operation until the construction of the National Centre RUSSIA is completed.
The full implementation of the project is scheduled for completion in 2029.
Until the
opening of the new exposition centre, the National Centre RUSSIA will continue
its work in Pavilion No. 7 of the Expocentre (14 Krasnopresnenskaya
Embankment), where the ground floor currently hosts the exposition
"Journey Across Russia" — a unique opportunity to travel from
Vladivostok to Kaliningrad without leaving Moscow. Spanning over 3,000 square
metres, the exposition features dozens of interactive displays showcasing the
achievements, culture, science, and nature of all federal districts of Russia.
On the
second floor, the architectural exposition "The Birth of Scale" is
open, highlighting accomplishments and successes that inspire building anew,
thinking beyond boundaries and expanding horizons. The exposition follows a
modular format, with each section offering its own visual and thematic content.
The thematic units trace the evolution of architectural styles — from early
Russian traditions to contemporary experimentation.
