Free communication with the audience: guest reviews of the lecture "Russian Architecture in Global Context"
On May 30, the National Centre RUSSIA hosted the lecture "Russian Architecture in Global Context" — the seventh event in a series of educational meetings dedicated to our country's architecture. Art scholar and architecture historian Yelizaveta Likhacheva served as moderator, with Professor of the International Academy of Architecture, Head of Architecture at HSE University, and President of the Yakov Chernikhov Foundation Andrei Chernikhov as speaker.
Participants discussed the role Russian architecture played in shaping global styles and how ideas born in one culture spread and are reinterpreted in another.
"This was a conversation about Russia's place in world architecture, what it has given to the world and absorbed from outside. Architecture is an international art," noted Andrei Chernikhov.
Attendees shared their impressions of the lecture and the entire series as a whole. Alexandra Kanishcheva explained that she became interested in the topic after the previous lecture, which she attended on a friend's recommendation.
"I really enjoyed it. I don't work in architecture at all, but I find it so fascinating! You can see how our culture, art, and national identity come together. Architecture isn't just mathematics, engineering, construction. It's also our culture, art, our crafts. Our songs, our soul — everything that exists within us, within the nation and within ordinary people," said Alexandra Kanishcheva.
Some attendees regularly visit the architecture lectures at the National Centre RUSSIA. Natalia Voznyak noted that she had attended five of them in person and watched the other two as recordings.
"Very worthy speakers present information in an accessible format. This isn't something rehearsed, read from paper. This is free communication with the audience. During the lectures, I even make notes for myself about places I want to visit and see in person. And I share the knowledge I've acquired. I've brought my friends and my son here — it's very interesting for them too," shared Natalia Voznyak.
Educational programme events can be attended free of charge with advance registration on the National Centre RUSSIA website russia.ru. Current information is available in the "Events" section.
