"Theatre of the Future" was created by the participants of the workshop at the "The Birth of Scale" exposition
The participants of the "Vsyako-razno" ("All Sorts of Things") workshop, which took place at the National Centre RUSSIA on April 5, brought architecture together with nature. Children, along with their instructors, created a multi-layered art installation, "Theatre of the Future," whose elements depict the life of a metropolis and showcase the ecological solutions of tomorrow.
The future — comfortable, green, alive, and full of light — this is how the young architects envisioned it. The creative event in the art-class at the "The Birth of Scale" exposition was led by the instructors from the Future Architecture School SETKA, Yegor Orlov, Irina Golovanova, and Sonya Gosteva.
"Today, we viewed architecture as a decoration for a theater, using the principle of layering, which we encounter every day: in the city, in nature, and even in this room. Then, we observed how one layer overlaps with another to create an overall composition. The participants developed ideas for their own architectural decorations, and then we transferred them onto a three-dimensional model — and the result was an entire planet of the future. We regularly conduct such workshops at our school, integrating everything into architecture, thereby exploring and understanding it more and more deeply. This is why the workshop is called 'VSYAKO-RAZNO'. After all, architecture is everything around us, any space," said Sonya Gosteva, an instructor at the Future Architecture School SETKA.
Expressing dreams through creativity, the participants of the workshop showed care not only for people but also for the animal world. Some parts of the collective art installation even featured dinosaurs, living harmoniously alongside humans on the planet of the future.
"Here I have a desert, here — temperate forests, a river, and jungles, and then — more forests and steppes. At first glance, it might seem that there is no architecture, but inside the planet, there are passages, and in them — houses made of glass. Oxygen and water are supplied inside through special pipes, and on the surface of the Earth, you can just walk freely. Pterosaurs, mesosaurs — in general, all the creatures that lived on Earth in ancient times — live here," said Timofey, a young participant in the creative process, about his contribution to shaping the planet of the future.
Representatives of all ages gathered to fantasize about the future and gain new experiences of collaborative art process.
"As an adult, I rediscovered the simplest and most basic things that I had long forgotten. Watching the activities of the younger generation, you also start remembering how you once dreamed and created. Therefore, it was very interesting, accessible, and inspiring. We will definitely come to other workshops," shared her impressions Timofey’s mother, Alyona.
The architectural exposition "The Birth of Scale" at the National Centre RUSSIA reveals the grandeur of Russia through its architectural heritage. The exposition features both the Centre’s own items and those provided by museums and private collectors across the country. These include tools used by architects throughout history, blueprints and models of buildings — both successfully constructed and those that remain as innovative ideas. A special section is dedicated to the future of domestic architecture, showcasing children's creative studios, student workshops, and works by young architects.
Partners of the "The Birth of Scale" exposition include DOM.RF, the Ministry of Construction of Russia, Gazprom, the A. V. Shchusev State Museum of Architecture, the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, the Yakov Chernihov Architectural Charitable Foundation, and the HSE School of Design.
You can visit the workshops and join an excursion through the "The Birth of Scale" exposition for free by registering in advance on the National Centre RUSSIA website russia.ru. Current information about the events of the exposition’s educational program can be found in the "Events" section.
The expert program on architecture and urbanism "Looking into the Future" will take place on April 8 at the National Centre RUSSIA.
