Technological breakthroughs and vectors of development: RUSSIA EXPO presented the achievements of Russian healthcare
On February 2, the plenary session "Russian Healthcare: Achievements and Opportunities" was held at the International RUSSIA EXPO as part of the business program of the Health Day. There, visitors were introduced to the successes of the industry during COVID-19, to Russian technological breakthroughs and vectors of further development, and spoke about the creation of medicines.
In particular, the participants of the plenary session discussed the possibility of localization of pharmaceutical production in Russia, as well as the development of new logistics and trade relations. There were speeches by Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation; Ekaterina Priezzheva, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia; Yegor Prokhorchuk, Dean of the Biomedical Faculty of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia; Alexander Gintsburg, Director General of the Gamaleya National Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Ministry of Health; Andrey Kaprin, Director General of the National Medical Research Radiological Center of the Russian Ministry of Health; Sergey Zhdanov, Director of the Health Industry Center of Sberbank PJSC; and Anna Mescheryakova, Director General of the Third Opinion Platform LLC.
"Achieving measurable results for the healthcare industry is the most important issue. The first thing we must consider is life expectancy and health indicators for newborn children. Today in the Russian Federation there is an increase in life expectancy and a decrease in mortality rates below the pre-pandemic period. The pandemic has done its job in terms of accelerating the development of healthcare, making us more attentive, looking ahead to understand where to go and how to develop healthcare. You can see how much the infrastructure has changed, how much the equipment has changed. Each regional stand in Pavilion No. 75 presents new facilities - there are thousands of them all over the country," said Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Health of Russia.
Ekaterina Priezzheva, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, spoke about the main directions of the pharmaceutical and medical industry.
"Russian pharmacists have recently acquired very serious competencies, expanded and increased their production capacity. In 2010-2023, 75 new production sites were opened. The Pharma-2030 strategy emphasizes that production facilities should be opened on a full-cycle basis. It is important to note that over the last two years, 14 production facilities have been opened, eight of which are already producing medicines on a full-cycle basis, starting with the production of the active pharmaceutical substance. By now, production of pharmaceuticals has been launched in all federal districts of Russia. The increase in production volume since 2008 in monetary terms amounted to 406%. The volume of the Russian pharmaceutical market has increased 2.5 times in monetary terms since 2014, the volume of government purchases has increased more than three times," said Ekaterina Priezzheva, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia.
Alexander Gintsburg, Director General of the Gamaleya National Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Ministry of Health, spoke about Russian vaccine creation technologies.
"Mikhail Albertovich Murashko in his speech made a very good and correct observation that the past - and in fact, the pathogen has not gone anywhere - pandemic gave a powerful impetus to many technological directions in public health and science," emphasized Alexander Gintsburg, Director of the Gamaleya National Center of the Russian Ministry of Health.
