Titans of production: Day of Basic Industry Sectors opened at the RUSSIA EXPO
Mikhail
Yurin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, greeted
guests at the opening ceremony of the Day of Basic Industry Sectors at the
Exposition.
"If
you look closely, everything that surrounds us — household items, clothes,
vehicles - everything that makes our lives comfortable and modern, started with
the products of basic industries. And if we think of the manufacturing
industry as a house, the basic industries are its foundation. Durability and
coziness in the house depends on how strong and reliable it will be," said
Mikhail Yurin.
The day
started with a sightseeing tour of Pavilion E Made by Us (Ministry of Industry
and Trade of Russia) for guests and representatives of the flagship enterprises
of the industry. The excursion was accompanied by comments from experts, whose
roles were performed by heads of enterprises of the basic industry sectors.
"Chemistry
and petrochemistry are the basis of all industries, including the domestic
automotive industry, — said Mikhail Sutyaginsky, Chairman of the Board of
Directors of Titan Group of Companies. — For example, we make auto chemicals,
auto cosmetics, premium oils, cooling and glass-washing liquids, grease
lubricants. Titan GC takes the first place in providing the Russian market with
MTBE — gasoline additive; in the production of SBR — this type of rubber is
used in the tire industry; in the production of isopropyl alcohol — it is used
in the production of glass-washing liquids, its production capacity is the
largest in Russia and now amounts to 60 thousand tons per year".
According
to Mikhail Sutyaginsky, in the Pskov region the company is also building an
import-substituting production of polybutylene terephthalate - a type of
engineering plastic that is actively used in the automotive industry.
The guests
of the pavilion discussed how basic industry sectors contribute to the
development of the automotive industry.
"The
chemical industry gives the automotive industry functionality, lightweighting
and even partly energy efficiency. This year's solution is high-pressure
polyethylene for fuel tanks, which are on display at the Made by Us exposition.
We also use polycarbonate with certain properties for light reflection in
headlights. A lot of elements of basic industries are used for interior and
exterior items, which creates comfort for consumers," said Daria Borisova,
Managing Director of SIBUR LLC.
The guests
also elaborated on the work being done to provide Russian agrarians with
quality fertilizers.
"Today
we can confidently say that with the support of the Government and the Ministry
of Industry and Trade of Russia, the mineral fertilizer industry has not only
withstood all sanctions, but, according to preliminary results for 2023, has
shown growth in production volumes. The consumption of mineral fertilizers by
Russian farmers is approaching 12 million tons per year. The industry feels
stable and confident, and retains its development potential. Last year we
launched several new production facilities, companies are implementing new
investment projects," said Mikhail Yurin.
"We
are world leaders and provide mineral fertilizers not only to our farmers, but
also to half the world. Of course, there are important components, the
production of which we plan to create in Russia, - added Konstantin Ivanov,
Head of the Department for Relations with Government Authorities and
International Activities of UCC URALCHEM JSC. — Together with research
institutes, we are working to create our own technologies and technological
foundation. First of all, these are catalysts — a necessary element for stable
production operation. For example, for Uralchem we have counted 12 types of
critical catalysts, the production of which we intend to completely localize in
Russia."
On the
Basic Industries Day and Consumer Goods Day, guests will be treated to an
extensive business, educational and cultural program. The key event will be a
plenary session with industry leaders. Speakers will talk in presentation
format about achievements that the whole country can be proud of. During the
constructive dialogue, government officials, experts and representatives of
public organizations and the business community will exchange views on various
industry issues, share best practices and knowledge, and talk about the
achievements of the regions that contribute to strengthening the economy and
society.
The
educational program includes a number of educational lectures and
masterclasses, such as Inspiring the Future: How to Become a Scientist in the
Chemical Industry; Chemistry Around Us: Secrets of Everyday Life, and
Supermaterials Based on Fibers That Are Thinner Than a Hair and Stronger Than
Steel.
As part of
the cultural program, Pavilion No. 75 will host a concert with the
participation of creative groups from industrial enterprises: these include the
musical group of the Zvezdochka Research Institute of Applied Chemistry, led by
Dmitry Elkhov, that will perform for the guests of the RUSSIA EXPO.
