Traditions, progress, hospitality: the Republic of Dagestan held a themed week at the National Centre RUSSIA
The National Centre RUSSIA summed up the results of the
first themed week of the project "Days of the Regions" within the
exposition "Region-2030. Platform of the Future". From 2 to 7
September, guests explored the Republic of Dagestan — its culture, traditions
and modern achievements.
Sergei Melikov on the Future of the Republic
The key event was the visit of Head of the Republic of
Dagestan Sergei Melikov, who opened the series of meetings with the heads of
Russia’s regions. The format is aimed at discussing strategic projects that
will shape the country by 2030.
"What kind of Dagestan do we envision in 2030? A
strong, prosperous region where traditions and modernity are in harmony, where
every person feels part of a big, united home. At the heart of everything, of
course, are people. Our greatest wealth is our hardworking, hospitable and
sincere people," stressed Sergei Melikov.
The head of the republic noted that the development of
tourism, creative industries and industrial potential will be the basis for a
sustainable future of the region, and Dagestan’s participation in the
exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA is an important step towards promoting
its image nationwide.
Dagestan at the National Centre RUSSIA: Culture, Sport and
Gastronomy
Dagestan Week at the National Centre RUSSIA became a real
journey through the multifaceted culture and traditions of the region.
Culture and Creativity
Guests were welcomed with national dances and instrumental
compositions blending the rhythms of the mountains and the melodies of the
plains. Leading artists of the republic took the stage: People’s Artist of
Dagestan Abdula Magomedmirzaev, the Echo of the Mountains and Vatan ensembles,
and soloists of the Dagestan Philharmonic. The audience was impressed by a
fashion show of ethnic and wedding costumes from the Arshayev brand, where
traditional ornaments and cuts were combined with modern design solutions.
Quizzes and workshops were held for children and young people to let them learn
more about the cultural codes of the region.
Sport and Legends
Special attention was paid to Dagestan’s sporting glory. At
an autograph session, visitors met famous athletes — Olympic medallist in
freestyle wrestling Sazhid Sazhidov, two-time world boxing champion Muslim
Gadzhimagomedov, world freestyle wrestling champion Abdusalam Gadisov and other
renowned athletes. The athletes shared their success stories, spoke about their
path to victories and inspired young people to take up sport.
Gastronomy and Hospitality
One of the most anticipated events were the workshops in the Gastronomic Rows. Guests learned how to prepare corn khinkal, chudu, dried apricot porridge and the famous urbech. The culinary sessions were accompanied by stories about the history of Dagestan’s cuisine and the secrets of recipes passed down from generation to generation. The tastings ended on a bright note — with a fiery lezginka dance, in which guests also joined the performers.
Folk Crafts
Hereditary masters presented carpet weaving and
silverworking techniques. Everyone could try themselves as an apprentice and
experience the traditional crafts that preserve the soul of Dagestan.
Thus, Dagestan Week at the National Centre RUSSIA became a
multi-layered exposition — from stage to workshop, from sports arena to
kitchen. It was a true portrait of the republic, where traditions, progress and
hospitality unfolded in full.
The week concluded on a high note with the photo contest "Hospitable Dagestan", organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Folk Arts and Crafts of the Republic of Dagestan. The winner of the public vote was Irina Polikarpova from Veliky Novgorod. The main prize was a journey along the national tourist route "Legends of Dagestan".
"Region-2030" continues
Next in the framework of the "Days of the Regions"
will be the Voronezh region (9–14 September). After that, stands will be
presented by the Tula and Amur regions, the Jewish Autonomous Region, the
Chelyabinsk region and the Nenets Autonomous Area.
The exposition "Region-2030. Platform of the
Future" at the National Centre RUSSIA combines historical legacy and
modern technologies, allowing visitors to make a virtual journey across the
regions, discover their economic and tourism potential, and even try out the
professions of the future.
