See "The Face of the City": a graphic arts workshop was held at the National Centre RUSSIA
A workshop titled "The Face of the City" was held as part of the educational program of "The Birth of Scale" exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA on March 29. It was conducted by instructors from the ANO DPO "FA-SAD" Architecture and Design Studio, Inna and Valery Salikhov.
Participants used markers to create graphic compositions, designing characters inspired by the geometry of a real city. The workshop included both theoretical and practical sessions. Under the guidance of the instructors, participants analyzed city layouts, searched for its unique image, and reflected their own identity through graphics. They also studied urban planning structures and, using the map of Moscow, identified portrait-like similarities with fictional characters, transforming the urban environment into an artistic narrative.
"We examined Moscow's general plan, discussed construction, the principles of 'urban fabric,' and how the city develops. The participants and their parents faced a creative challenge, which they successfully tackled. Each of them created their own personal graphic artwork. The task was to visualize and design a human, animal, or fictional character and outline it on the city map. We did this using markers and fineliners," said Inna Salikhova, teacher at the "FA-SAD" Architecture and Design Studio.
The workshop "The Face of the City" was held at the National Centre RUSSIA for the first time. Valery Salikhov noted that they had previous experience conducting similar events in various cities, such as Kazan and Yekaterinburg, where they used maps of those locations. He also added that the National Centre RUSSIA regularly hosts workshops on modeling, prototyping, framework structures, and graphics, which are open to everyone upon prior registration.
Olga Kolodesnikova, a participant of the workshop, attended the event with her daughter Yeseniya. They frequently visit similar events, but this was their first time at the National Centre RUSSIA.
"We really enjoyed it and will definitely come again. We also plan to visit 'The Birth of Scale' exposition. My daughter is creative, loves to draw, and has a vivid imagination," shared Olga Kolodesnikova.
